i dont buy the father commits a crime crap and the boy is effected as an analogy in this situation, sorry.
first of all, the only one as of this point who has been convicted of a crime, is jerry sandusky. jerry sandusky had not coached there in 14 years and most of those players have no clue who the f he is other than some old pictures of team photos. so his kids/wife suffer, not kids who play for penn state. in all fairness, even though i feel they are guilty, none have been proven that way in the court of law, yet. these guys playing for penn state dont have a dad committing a crime, they have had 3 guys charged who they barely know and another one they do know dead. just not the same analogy.
further, this penalty shows how it was to appease the media and make the ncaa look like they are all holy. why arent you penalizing anything else at penn state besides solely the football program? because that is what everyone is after. if your feeling is it was a university problem like they have stated, well guess what? tim curley was AD and he oversees the entire athletic department. i feel it should be spread out throughout the program if you are going to punish. gary schultz, after being police chief, was the head of the financial department, nothing for them. it was stuck on the football team from the get go so emmert did what would get him the popular vote.
in regards to the rush, why not wait a year until the court cases of curley and schultz are figured out and the ncaa holds their own investigation? then allow all kids who want to transfer after the season and start penalties then. they would have much more time to transfer and figure stuff out. (i think the short notice helps penn state actually but hurts the student athletes) this would be worse for my university, but it would clearly give the student athletes a better chance at figuring this out with better opportunities.
as far as the coaches being in state college, players yelling at them to get out and stuff, it is nothing short of pathetic. the ncaa could have planned a way that they must contact the ncaa office to let penn state know when they would be there and if they would like to contact the player. most coaches have stated at big 10 media day (meyer, fitzgerald, bielema, hoke) they would not contact penn state players period and dantonio stumbled upon words saying if he was contacted he would. bs dantonio, you went after a penn state 2013 recruit an hour after the announcement was made by the ncaa, an action you scolded urban meyer for doing last year to wisconsin.
again, the ncaa could have done something about this, instead they made it chaotic for student athletes, have other student athletes effected when they lose a scholarship for a player from psu going there, effect kids who thought they had a better standing with the football team move to a lesser role, and ignoring ncaa by laws in this case as far as recruiting. like BOB said yesterday, its like nfl free agency without rules. its a joke and another lack of institutional control in my opinion, this time by the ncaa.
just different ways of looking at it which is cool (without the obnoxious rant of penn state deserves to die, all of them) i am over the penalties they got, i think it will all work out and make kids stronger who stay there actually in life.
my favorite penn state team ever will be on the field this year and i dont care if they win a game, they have shown their true colors and represent the university in a way it should be.
but its time to move on for everyone directly or indirectly involved.
