Ohio St Buckeyes, Best Team Ever?

It may factor in a close game but this OSU juggernaut is'nt gonna let a crowd stop them.


I don't post often, but this was good for a pretty good laugh. Just because they walk all over the Big Ten in a year when the second best team in the league was beaten by a 1-AA school does not come remotely close to being able to put a thread out there saying they are among the greatest teams of all time. Even as I say that, I wouldn't rule them out of winning a national championship this year because their easy schedule has allowed them to come through relatively injury free while the other major contenders seem to all have lost major contributors. To sum up, win the Mythical National Championship? maybe, but far from a sure thing. Best team of all time? Not even close since they couldn't defeat the second string of a lot of the good teams from the past decade (to say nothing of the era of higher scholarship limits).

pete, when Ginn went ot the Buckeyes scored 3 more points, their offense was totally lost, couldn't do a damn thing, 3 and outs. So Florida's offense rolled. If Ginn is in and the OSU offense could move the ball, no way Florida scores 41 points, they wouldn't have the ball anywhere near as much. And OSU probably scores 20+ points and Florida scores in the 20's, and it would be a close game either way. The fact is that Florida was lucky to even be in that game as the voters could have put USC in there too.
 
Godfather, you do realize the reason that Ginn went out in that game, don't you?  It wasn't because he was battling so hard on the field and came up with an injury.  Oh No...  It was because Dumbass Teammate #1 horse collared him while Dumbass Teammate #2 jumped on top of him after his KO return for a TD, severely spraining his ankle, so the loss of Ginn, and therefore the NC in your opinion, is solely on his teammates. 
 
And THAT'S why a team like Ohio St, evidence from last year, can never be considered the best TEAM ever.  They put too much emphasis on the individual, and when that individual goes down, gameplan is shot.  I mean, for Pete's Sake (pun intended Pete), they still had the Heisman Trophy Winner on the field, didn't they?  Or was he really the greatest player from last year with his #1 targer gone?  Or was Florida that freaking good?

thanks Pete, sorry no harm intended. Top Daddy, you are right, that was a dumbass thing to do, jumping on Teddy Ginn in the endzone, that stuff happens every game, just bad luck. Maybe they did go too far. I'm not saying that's why they lost, maybe the game might have been closer, maybe different, maybe Florida was unbeatable that day, I don't think it is out of the question though that OSU could beat Florida in a game last year if they played their game, they beat everybody convincingly last year, and beat an unbeaten Michigan team solidly too.

Now if OSU wins it all not 1 person will give them any sort of credit.  Most people already hated them, now thanks to Godfather they're basically the Yankees of college football.  Man do I hate the Yankees.

ridiculous!  osu is a good team with no schedule. that does not equal the greatest or even a great team at all. if you want to talk about a great team with a tough-ass schedule....'04 auburn. we werent the greatest of all time......but i think that team was one of the best in the recent past. never again will an sec team dominate and go undefeated and not play for a nat'l championship. never.

MENACE, not true. If OSU wins out going away, and they beat a good team in the NCG then I will be the first to give OSU there do. I think Godfather went over board a bit by maybe thinking this OSU team fits into the catagory of best ever but I won't dog him for sticking up for his team, we all do it. Just thought OSU's schedule was a little weak this year and I don't think they have been in as many battles as say LSU has. Do I still believe if LSU wins out and they meet up in New Orleans against OSU lsu comes out on top sure I do but he believes OSU comes out on top which is normal
 
Redbone6, you definitly are correct, there will never be another undefeated team come out of the SEC and  not play for the title. That was just obsurd in my and alot of other people's opinion.

Godfather... this was an ill-advised thread... and actually what made it more ill-advised is that you didn't back off of the original statement and immediately suggest that you didn't really believe it but were just throwing it out there... instead you keep arguing every point against you no matter how strong or valid it is... you are blindly  trying to make a case in areas where none exist... so just drop it already... if A OSU wins out and beats a serious team like Oregon or OU or LSU in the NC game, then you can say they were a great team... although still saying they are the greatest ever isn't gonna wash with anybody but A OSU fans... but at least at that point it won't be utterly baseless...

but as of right now, arguing that a team whose most impressive win is at Penn St (a team that is ridiculously unimpressive this year) is the greatest team of all time, having run through a schedule full of teams that are also-rans in their respective conferences, is simply ridiculous... no other way to cut it...

I agree, the 04 Auburn team was great, USC and OKL were undefeated too, maybe they put up more points but Aub was very impressive. It was a year where there was 3 dominant teams which is rare. Whatever team you left out though would be pissed. This year, whomever wins the NC I will say, "Job well done. "

OSU doesn't even compare to half of the the past greats.  Nebr. 95 would beat the shit out of beckman

stascol, wrong, Nebraska wouldn't get to the QB, the OSU O line has been giving awesome protection. Boeckman looks good, but he has the best O line around IMO.

Nooooo... whoever wins the NC this year will be a team that won it in a year when there simply were no great teams... that was obvious from about week 3 or 4, and even week 1 if you were paying attention... LSU beat Miss St 45-0 but looked anemic in doing so, getting all of their points thanks to horrible offensive play by MSU, and USC struggled to beat a terrible Idaho team... the one thing that has characterized this year is that no team looks like anything special...

you are trying to annoint a team in a year where the winner will inevitably be winner by default, for that reason...

and this OSU team would get OBLITERATED by that Nebraska team... the OSU offense would get tortured all game long...

you clearly know NOTHING about college football... you have become the joke of Covers, Godfather...

let this discussion and this thread die, for your own sake...

GoG, I have won a lot of money in College FB and follow it closely, apparently you haven't watched any OSU games if you don't think they are a great team, they are blowing out everybody, maybe that's why people think their competition is bad. But there are a lot of good teams this year, ORG, OKL, Kansas, I would say more than last year as at the end of the year there was only OSU-Mich, and the USC and Flor were vying for the other spot. This year it appears that as many as 7 teams may have a claim on the top 2 spots, OSU, LSU, ORG, Kans, OKL, Mizz, WV,  when has this ever happened?

people think OSU's competition is bad because they are blowing them out???  are you kidding?  NO!  people think their competition is bad because you can look at the teams they have played, all of them, and say... hmmm... those teams all suck!  because they do!  name a team to me that has been impressive this year, that OSU has beaten... i mean, don't you look at their schedule?  you realize all these teams OSU has beaten have played other teams this year, right?  we know how good those teams are based on how they have performed against OTHER teams, as well... Washington sucks because they can't win a game in their own conference... not because OSU blew them out... Wisconsin sucks because they needed a miracle to pull out a win against UNLV... Penn St sucks because they struggled to beat powerhouses like Buffalo and ND (and i watched those games, so don't tell me otherwise... they were in a dogfight in both of those games)... if these teams were good they would be blowing out that kind of competition... that's how it works!

if you are talking about covering spreads... then yes, OSU is a great team... just like Kansas and Oregon... in fact, as covering the spreads go... KANSAS is the greatest team ever!

your last statement to me proves that you are simply not a thinker!  not someone who has enough of a brain to understand things... the fact that there is so much PARODY in CFB is proof that this is not a year with a standout (GREAT) College football team... don't you get that?

the years where there are great teams are the years where 2 or 3 teams roll from start to finish and everyone knows those are the great teams this year (USC - Texas the best recent example)... last year looked like there might be, until we looked at what happened to OSU and Michigan down the stretch...

i understand now that the reason you think OSU is the greatest team ever is because you have won a lot of money on them... but how long have you been watching CFB, seriously?  like 2 years?  you are not qualified to be having this discussion... i've been watching it for 25+ years... i have seen great teams play... and yes, i have seen many games OSU has played this year... they have looked great against absolutely TERRIBLE competition...

so has Kansas... but nobody is calling them the greatest team ever!  or even a great team, period... at least not yet... not before they have beaten a quality team...

Have a few cocktails? The Conference is a joke and if the LSU Tigers don't screw up you will see a beating just like the one against Florida.....
 
Quite frankly I think OSU would give Mississippi State quite a game.

Buckeyes joked today, if they do happen to pull it out it would be a miracle, good luck guys on your teams for the BCS Championship, it appears that OSU is out of it.
