As a Buckeye fan, this was the game I was worried about and rightfully so. They can't stop the spread offense and everyone saw that tonight. I did not see the game so I can't say what I thought about it, but all I know is a defense who SHOULD be prepared for this type of offense, and a coach who calls a timeout on a 4th and inches (leading to a first down), and a quarterback who throws 3 interceptions is not deserving of a MUST WIN. Especially playing at home, this game shouldn't have been close, but tressel-ball failed tonight and I'll eat my words becuase I'm a realist.
 
All I have to say is Oregon is the team to watch and next year OSU will pretty much have the same players as this year so hopefully we pull off an undefeated season.

The truly sad thing is that even if OSU ran the table and won their bowl game, they still wouldn't be in the top 20 teams ever in this year of parity,  How anybody could have thought this was the best college football team ever assembled (even before this loss) is beyond me.  It must take the ultimate homer to do that.

since you didn't get to watch the game, i'll recap it for you...

Illinois was way too fast for OSU... they pushed around the defensive line for 60 minutes... after getting the ball back with 8 minutes to play, up 28-21, Illinois needed to milk some clock... they ran the ball down OSU's throat for the final 8 minutes of the game, putting together first down after first down, and never giving the ball back... they even converted a 4th and 1 from about their own 30 yd line...

they made OSU look like the pretender they were, quite simply... Illinois manhandled them on both sides of the ball... they were clearly the better team on the field...

but i figure OSU still could be the 2nd greatest team of all time... so start a new thread...

GoG, Oh st, didn't play well, OSU has enough speed on their defense but they couldn't stop the QB from running. The timeout by Tressel on the 4th down was stupid because oftn times the coaches will change their minds during the T/O.

The inability to do this consistently is what got Ron Zook fired from Florida. Quite possible Zook would have still been there had he not given up so many games in the last few minutes because they couldn't get a first down to seal the deal. Now, in dominating fashion, he shoved it up an opponent's ass for 8 minutes in their house. Apparently, he's learned from his mistakes.

How does it feel getting pounded by Florida, then having an SEC reject come into your house, outcoach your coach, and whip your ass there?

That's gotta suck. 

I hope Zook changes the face of Big 10 football, because he's recruiting that SEC speed to Illinois, and they are only going to get better in the next couple of years with this YOUNG Illinois team.  Get used to it.

The only thing everyone seems to agree on is your blatant homerism for the Buckeyes.  That being said, it's pretty cool you came back to the thread to take your much deserved heat.  I learned my lesson in 2003 with the whole best team ever thing when the "invincible" Sooners laid a turd on the field the last two games of the year.  The Buuckeyes are good, and depending on their bowl matchup could finish with one loss still.  I know I am happy anytime my team can get a BCS game.

yeah I kind of jumped the gun on the best ever bit, if they would have run the table it would have been impressive but of course there are many great teams in the past, probably the 01 Canes and 95 Huskers the most impressive I've seen recently.

I'm sorry I just have to do this in this OSU thread, I am so tired of their arrogance.  For years they played one decent team a year and claimed they were best in the nation..... Try playing good teams in a tough conference every week !!!!!!  Congratulations to Ron Zook and Illini

Barely theoretical.  There is little doubt that the winner of the Big XII among Oklahoma, Kansas or Missouri will be rated ahead of OSU.  That means OSU needs, LSU, Oregon, and WV to all lose to have any chance.  Even if that happened, Arizona State (who still plays USC) or even UGA if they beat LSU in the SEC title game could jump OSU.  While technically possible, even when there have been a ton of surprising upsets, I don't see OSU with a legit shot to play for the NC game now.

They have no chance without a conference championship game. Just another reason for conferences that don't play a championship game to pick up a couple teams and play a conf championship game.

Georgia would not get into the NC game with 2 losses. OSU gets in over ASU or WV if they all have 1 loss, as long as OSU has a nice win at Mich. IF 3 of these 4 teams lose a game, (Kansas, OKL, ORG, LSU), gonna be hard to envision OSU in the NC. Now of course they should have taken care of business vs Illinois.

Ohio State is done godfather. People already were talking about lsu and oregon jumping them when they were undefeated. Big ten is the biggest joke in football. I take no one from that slow conference seriously. I saw the illini upset coming for weeks.
 
The only thing that sucks is that now I cant bank on whoever would have played osu in the national title had they ran the table the way I did on florida last year.
