I see your point Double and I like Bowl Games, but man I guess I'm just old school. Let's decide it on the field. 1 Loss and your out most times?? Injury, Sickness, etc.... Heck if the BCS was in charge of Basketball easily the Top 2 teams last year were Kansas and Kentucky. They didn't even make the Final 4 and Kansas was knocked out early,,, NO they have the novel idea of deciding the champion on the floor (Just like every other sport or every other level of FB)
Just have to DisagreeBrother on Comparing Basketball to Football
1+ More Games of Football could easily End one of these Childrens Football Careers
I
Each Bowl game is 1+ Week Vacation of a Lifetime for all of these Kids and their Families/Fans .....
Every other SportsRegular season is almost Meaningless....
The NFL is a Whole nother Ball game ...
Any Given Play could be Your Last .....
These Guys scarfice everything taking all these Hits +PED's ..... Wonder how many will go Nutz or be stiff in 10+Years
Those Greedy TV Bastards would have every team Make the playoffs...By the time the SuperBowl came you would have Charlie Batch vs Todd Collins as the QB Matchup...

I agree the system got the right national championship game this year, although some TCU fans might disagree. What happens if TCU blows out Wisconsin?? (Doubt that will happen ) We will have 2 undefeated teams left. Flip a coin?
BTW, I would love to see an SEC team have to come play in the snow. It takes a different kind of football to win in those conditions. All the big bowl games are in places with warm weather.

I am strongly in the favor of at least a 8 team playoff for numerous reasons, but I am 100% in favor of keeping the bowls as well.
The argument that college football has the best regular season is fine and all but not true. If you had 14 teams fighting for 8 play-off spots the last two or three weeks instead of 3 or 4 fighting for one game it would be so much better. Teams being penalized for losing late instead of early...teams scheduling bad teams because they are scared to lose one game (like a gymnast who falls from the beam after practicing for years and although she is the best has no room for mistake)...Teams running up the score like Wisconsin so they win a computer vote over Ohio St and Michigan St (and I applaud Wisconsin for doing so, it is unfortunately the rules)...Bias and just plain uninformed voting determining that one undefeated team deserves to play for the championship while another played for a big money bowl...I could go on and on, but sports by definition is supposed to be decided by the teams themselves. A team loses two early games and finishes strong but it was over before it really got started like Virginia Tech should have a chance to play and see if they are the best right now.
Finally, the next division down expanded from 16 to 20 teams...why? Aren't they college students? Do they not have exams? Do they not travel in the play-offs? Do they not play 14-16 games and the season is over quicker then division one? If all of this is so bad, Why did they expand? To give teams like defending champion Villanova time to recover from a bad start and still win the championship because they may be the best team. Do you think Alabama would like to be involved in a 16 team play-off? I know I would not want to play them now with a reason and 2nd chance...
Now, let me state emphatically that we need, no, must have a bowl season. It is as American as apple pie. It is the best thing about the holidays. Day after day of college football, it is nothing short of great and we will never be without it. BYU-SMU in the holiday bowl with McMahon leading a furious rally, Notre Dame-Houston with Joe Montana, to the small schools like the MAC and Conference USA getting to play. I love the bowls themselves, but they are in no way a decent substitute for deciding a champion...

College football clearly has the best regular season. (Many regular season NCAA football games over the years are fondly remembered by many. The same is not true to the same extent in any other sport.) Bowls would be meaningless if they kept them along with the playoff. (Can you say NIT?.....who would care?). If you had a playoff whereby the teams would be determined by some sort of BCS poll, it would be no better than what there is currently. (TCU has less of a complaint about missing a 2 team playoff than the 9th or 10th teams would have about being left out of an 8 team playoff this year). What would the Auburn vs South Carolina game have meant to Auburn if there was a playoff? Win or lose, Auburn would have been in an 8 team playoff. Why not rest any players who have minor injuries and save them for round 1 of the playoffs? I'd love to take a chance on paying top dollar for tickets to a questionably meaningless game where starters were held out. (Know how tough it is to bet the last week or two of the NFL regular season....not knowing who is going to play how much and who isn't playing at all). How many more reasons do you need? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. (Let's retire that expression!)

Completely, utterly agree about bowl system being preferable to a playoff. In my opinion, a playoff would change the game irrevocably...and not for the better.

Really Looking forward to the Rose Bowl .... Pretty shocked Wisconsin is Catching a Few Points instead of laying them ....
.....
Hats off to TCU .... They have been one of my Favorite teams to watch for the Last 5+ years ....The BCS Fucked them over Last year forcing them to Play Boise St(again).... Should have gotten a Crack at a AQ Conference school.....
I would be able to argue a Better case for the Horned Frogs if their best Wins were stronger than Utah and Air Force....
Agree ... Would Love to see a 4+ Bowl games in the North East(not sure the Fans want to see snow ) .... The Pinstripe Bowl should be Fun ....

Only disagree with 2 things
The FCS Playoffs are a hole different Ball Game ....
Nova travveling with 100 Fans is Nothing Like Wisconsin traveling with 60K+......
Say you have 4+ Playoff weeks , How do these Fans get out of Work ??? Book Hotel rooms/Flights on a weeks notice etc....
If the Higher Ranked team played at Home ---No Way Texas or Florida would stand to Travel to Wisconsin or UConn for a Late Dec. game ....
Also Alabama should NOT Sniff the Playoffs ....They already got beat 3 Times....

Maybe this has been said......I haven't read every post.
But couldn't you have a playoff AND have the bowl season? Does this weekend's game with BYU and UTEP become any less relevant with a playoff going on later? How about Missouri/Iowa or any of the other match-ups? Can't you still have all these meaningless bowls and have an 8 team playoff? I don't get why the two can't coexist.

Good to Disagree
A 8 team Playoff does not make sense to me .....
not to mention Notre Dame would get in somehow at 7-5 or better)
...
Why ???should 13-0 Auburn(who Swept through the Murderous SEC WEST+ a Conference Championship game ) have to play Teams like Ohio St or Stanford who could NOT Win their Conference

The bottom line is that every sport and NCAA football other divisions HAVE a playoff
The NFL has a playoff
MT Union has to win 4-5 games to be a champion
What is better than March madness in NCAA Basketball. How many teams go undefeated
Doesn't a team like TCU, Boise, Wisconsin, Ohio st , etc deserve a chance to play for a Championship ?
Comparing March Madness to FBS Football
is Like Comparing Golf to ....Soccer.....
I Love watching Regular season College Football Games were they will try and Run up the Score more often than Not ...Every Game is a BIG DEAL!!!!!
Much better than these Watered down Clock Wasting NFL games....the NFL is Paridy at it's Worst .... Just all about the Money ....Don't get me Wrong I love the skill Level of the NFL ....

Thanks for the good words, always an interesting argument...As far as the two things you mention...(1)The higher seeds need to be home until the championship game. The home teams will feel the stadiums with crazy for football play-offs with no problem. If a road team does not travel well that is too bad, the Ohio St, Oregon's and Auburn's of the world will have no problem selling their tickets. If they want their fans there, finish as a higher seed and I promise you most schools qwill srtill travel 5-10 thousand to get a chance to experience a play-off game in South Bend, Florida, Texas or the like...As far as Alabama not deserving because they lost three games I understand but personally would like to see an 8-3 Alabama with a new life playing at 12-0 TCU or one lose Boise St. You don't think those fans would show up and make their year? And you being an Auburn fan you know as well as I that the Bama fans, Auburn fans, Ohiost, Michigan, Oregon, Texas, Oklahoma, etc etc will travel and get the 5-10 seats alloted,,,
I appreciate your thoughts and respect your opinion. As I have said, there is no way in hell we should do anything but celebrate the bowls, they are america and are going nowhere. I just hate the fact (and it is a fact) that college football is the best on the field product, yet continues to do anything it can to make money over a legitimate play-off where the best team at the end of the season, the one who has grown and gotten better through determination and great coaching, sometimes does not get a fair chance...AKA 2004 Auburn with Cadillac Williams, Ronnie Brown, Jason Campbell and a nasty defense. I HATE THE BCS...Best Of Luck...

Good luck in the bowls, brother double....What would would have happened if OSU and Boise went undefeated this year? Both would have had legitimate- OSU probably more than Boise- reasons to be in the game. We could have easily had that scenario and then a playoff system would be better. In most years, playoff system is not necessary, but in some it will be critical.

I would be happy both ways. I do like the football bowl games though because they're a lot of fun to go to. I've been to the past two(three soon) bowl games for Michigan State and even though they lost, I had a blast. Plus, there is a lot more action on the games and it is a great way to start and end the year.

NO Doubt in my Mind the 2 Best teams met in the Fiesta Bowl....Game could have gone either way ... Cam Newton took plenty of hits that I didnt see him take during the regular season.... Not sure he could have played another game if there was a Stupid playoff
TCU's Players/Fans/etc can Brag about Winning the Rose Bowl for the rest of their Lives.....

Syracuse and Kansas State aren't the teams I had in mind. Both of those teams have kids who grew up playing in cold weather and snow.
Double, I'm not so sure we saw the 2 best teams battle for the national championship but they certainly belonged in that game. Perhaps they were the 2 best teams a month ago. Why do we insist on giving all the extra time to prepare? Certainly had to help Auburn's D get ready for the Ducks fast-paced offense.
Thanks for all the time and work brother! Even when I disagree with you, I enjoy sharing our views.
Congrats on the prop wins, you deserve to finish on a successful note.
Can't wait for next year

Please, no playoff system. Dont ruin college football like you are trying to do to the NCAABB tournament.
Please dont.
lol@college football would be ruined by having a playoff what r u one of the dumbass university presidents who dont want to give up control and the argument that every week is a playoff dont hold water try telling that to Boise and Tcu who have had undefeated seasons and not got there chance to play for the championship

and 37 days or whatever it was for oregon and auburns last regular season game to the bcs title game is beyond ridiculous its reason that game was so poorly played/with a playoff these teams are playing every week so they stay ready when its time for championship game and its decided on the field not by a bunch of human polls and computers. and if teams that dont make playoffs wanna play in bowl games i say let them i have no problem with doing both
