Well fellas, rough start to the season. I saw a lot of bad football being played, and I bet my hard earned money on most of the teams that played exceptionally poorly. Started with NAVY, who, with their new offense, looked alot like their old offense. Couldnt pass, have very few explosive players who can gain yards in space, could provide no resistance to ND offense, and there were about three breaks that Didnt go Navy's way in the 1st half that maybe could have made the game quazi competitive, but navy was outmatched...
UTEP...oh man, more inept play calling and unfortunate breaks going against us. UTEP TD Called off the board early in the game, on a Bomb from hardison, WR catches it, TD UTEP, reviewed it. they say no. they end up going for it on 4th and 2 from mid field, run the rhino package out there, and then throw it in 14 personel with three TE and a DT on offense. the utep defense played fairly well in my opinion, they handled the heat well and didnt give up a ton of explosive plays, but the offense was a disaster....very little success on 1st and 2nd down, did not empose their will on the undersized J-state Defensive front 7, and will all of the bad breaks (3-0 turnover margin, td taken off the board, horrific playcalling, they have a chance to go 88 yards in 4 minutes and win the game. they drive down field and get to the j-state 22. 1:25 to go, 3rd and 1, they opt for the fade pass to the corner of the EZ, incomplete. 4th down and 1, trips left, run a three-man combo route, underneath guy comes open, ball gets forced outside, INT. game over. bizarre to me that you have a size advantage, you have better running backs, and dont run the ball to extend the drive.
freshman kicker did miss a kick. defense overall played well, but they didnt get it done.
Louisiana Tech, what a display of uninspiring football, disastrous on offense in a game they were "motivated" to win and exact revenge on FIU from last season, they go down 14-0 early and never get in a rhythm offensively. smoke harris was a bright spot and has explosiveness and burst. La Tech folding chair defense has clearly improved on pass D! 4 pass yards allowed against their lockdown corners. lol...just overall uninspiring football for LA TECH makes me wonder what the heck they did all summer.
NMSU - bad. overall bad play, bad read, bad scout of UMASS...I have to do better. just awful job by me recognizing tht UMASS looks like a real football team now, very impressed with what I saw from the Men who take a minute.
