I may tease them thru +7 maybe as I could see a close one but maybe you know much more. Seem confident. BOL

Don't overvalue Tulane's performance against Navy.

Tulane has played not one, not two, but THREE triple option teams this year, giving them a blueprint for each succeeding game.

They got destroyed by Georgia Tech. They used that game to prep themselves for Navy and still lost handily but limited Navy's rushing attack, to their credit (Navy still put put up 30+ on them despite that).

Then having played two far better triple option teams in Navy and GT, they prevailed against Army, AT THE GUN.

Mind you, Army had FIVE fumbles, an Int and a completely blown punt which set up numerous Tulane scores (and no, the D does not get credit for all that as Army cannot hold onto the ball. They lead the nation in fumbles, lost or recovered with 34 and when you watch them, many are unforced).

SMU is a whole different animal. Tulane will score on their D but I promise you SMU will score as well and if you want to have a shootout with them, watch out because they will drop 40+ on you. And Tulane won't keep up with a spread like this, a mere FG.

Now Tulane has dropped 40+ on the worst team in the FBS and that is it. To even recognize the FCS win over Maine is a joke. Al this beefed up atrocious offensive stats, total gimme games. In their other games outside of Army UCF and Maine, they were destroyed.

Don't compare SMU and Tulane and how they did agaisnt Navy as in the end Navy won both games handily (SMU will get gashed by the run and luckily Tulane is 125th in the FBS in rushing yards....excellent), compare how they both did agaisnt Temple.

40-45 with under two minutes left for SMU against a very stout D vs. Tulane which got obliterated 49-10 and wasn't in the game for more than 6 or 8 minutes.

Now that is an apt comparison against a what was very recently a ranked team.

And Tulane also has a D line that can't compare with Temple. And they will also get gashed.

Of course but take two of those games and make them against what were very recently BCS playoff teams in TCU and Baylor, two completely unwinnable games for teams at this level. And those are two demoralizing losses to start a season while Tulane is handed UCF and Maine to get to 2-2. That's a huge difference.

Yes, SMU lost to James Madison but that was in week 4 and I don't mind it at this point. In fact I like it because when you talk about bad teams, Tulane is on the list and this will be yet another loss to another (really) bad team.

And Tulane comes in this game off a road win.

Now they have to win another road game in two consecutive weeks traveling across the country from North to South.

I went into covers database and looked up every year back to 2002 and Tulane did not win two consecutive road games. Is that remarkable? No. There are only 2 or three opportunities a season at most.

But this team has trouble winning anything nevermind two consecutive road team and now they face an SMU team that will be light year's different than what they just beat.

And as Train noted, this team was literally flying around the field like they just won the Rose Bowl after beating a 2 win Army team...Now they go on the road again and win another one against a high powered offense that will have the D gassed in the first quarter?

No way. I'm telling you, if you watched Tulane play you would be in your sportsbook account to get this bet in because they are not going to win it. And just a FG to get over? Yes please.

The horrible record for SMU is what keeps this game under the radar and made this spread possible. I love SMU's record. It screams for a win to the high heavens.

Oh, might I add that it is Senior night and SMU's last home game of the year where they return home after almost upsetting Temple and having fans storm it.

And you get a very nice 8 pm start on ESPNNews (about as high a level of a network for two horrendous teams). Prime time starts are always in the home team's favor as the fans are more raucous (and drunk) and the players have pep in their steps under the lights.

The horrible record for SMU is what keeps this game under the radar and made this spread possible. I love SMU's record. It screams for a win to the high heavens.

Oh, might I add that it is Senior night and SMU's last home game of the year where they return home after almost upsetting Temple and having fans storm it.

Defense seemed to frustrate Memphis as well as Memphis snagged a safety and a field goal right before the half to take the lead 15 -13. The kid playing at QB for Tulane that night was the 3rd string QB who had never started a game. They sure punched my Tigers in the mouth and it took a big 2nd half for Memphis to pull away. This is why I stayed away from touching this game. The way I see it, if Tulane has enough athletes to hang with Memphis for a half of football using their 3rd string QB, I believe they can run with SMU for a whole game with their 1st string QB. Not sure SMU can respond to being punched in the mouth as well as my Tigers can. Proceed with caution. Definitely not a play of the year, nor even of the week. Who can ever justify a game of the year on either of these teams who have proven they cannot WIN games much less cover a spread.
    Risky business  =    FADE

A guy named Memphis Frank is complaining about a Memphis Liberty Bowl loss to Tulane two YEARS ago, with a team that was leaps and bounds better than this one.

If anything, you should fade this guy, not me.

He's talking about the game they played earlier this year at Memphis liberty bowl stadium. I'm guessing he was in attendance.

We'll that's even more hilarious now that I actually read his entire post.

He fails to mention that the 'big second half' was comprised of Memphis scoring 26 unanswered to win 41-13 as Tulane rolled up a record breaking.....270 total yards.

So this guy is afraid of a 15-13 first half score where Tulane trailed against his 'almighty' Memphis team, in a game they won by almost 30, and that is a reason
    to fade SMU???

Wow folks, you be the judge of that one. Don't let me stop you from pounding Tulane this weekend on that credible basis!!

    Scal,
Long time follower, rarely a poster. Always look forward to your write-ups and insight. My question for you is this: my book (Bovada) often does not release lines until late in the week. By then, they are usually a bit worse than the opening line. How high would you play this bet up to?

Oh, might I add that it is Senior night and SMU's last home game of the year where they return home after almost upsetting Temple and having fans storm it.

And you get a very nice 8 pm start on ESPNNews (about as high a level of a network for two horrendous teams). Prime time starts are always in the home team's favor as the fans are more raucous (and drunk) and the players have pep in their steps under the lights.
I l love this angle "the fans are more raucous (and drunk)" Nothing helps a team more than opening up the tap in the stands for the adoring fans. Three cheers for BEER!

SMU also has better athletes....before taking a big play I will sometimes look at the recruit ratings and in this case SMU's are rated more highly than Tulane's.  Not saying this it the main thing I look at, but it's just one factor among many.

Now what were you saying? Oh nothing of note. That's par for the course with you.

Now scram before I book your action on this game and take your woman with your roll. You want Tulane? I'll book it.

Good job on your cherry picked statistics.... How about stats from this season only?  I'm hitting 61% on my 87 plays this year in college football without excuses, and will gladly let you book my $100 on Tulane +3.    You gonna take it?   We can hash out the payment details privately or come up with a trusted 3rd party to handle the funds.

I LOVE that you picked this game to give the scal treatment.....

The excuses are already built into the play.   SMU is bad.   And laying points, like you said you wouldn't do again after the Notre Dame loss to Temple.   My crystal ball peers into Saturday night seeing you typing "that's what I get for laying points with a crappy team like SMU".....     Perfect game for you.

You interested in taking the play?   I wouldn't touch this as one of my actual plays, but since you brought it up, I'll play it against you..... mostly for fun, but taking your money would be even more fun since you're so confident that you're beating your meat to it......

    Let me know.

Hey jailbait, you talk of minding your own business? For one SCAL made the gesture to take him on for this game. Correct? Scal can take care of Scal. He doesn't need you to open your mouth to do it for him does he?

Secondly, do you really need to post in huge type to make a point? I mean, really? Are you that mad over this? WOW!

what is his record for this year combined nfl and ncaaf?

i believe it is above 60% so why would would you say he is not winning?
