Is Newton the best college we have seen?

Seriously, his own coach worked at Texas I believe with two Heisman winners, and he sincerely calls Cam the best player he has ever seen, a better passer than Vince Young, and a complete package--runa nd pass.

He has a very very special player. Only the ignorant cannot see that. Shouldn't surprise, people have a hard time seeing reality.

He is the best player right now, hands down, in America. I don't know about all time. That kind of question boggles the mind and has too many variables to consider framing any kind of answer.

If you want to compare, you have to compare QBs with QBs. Herschel Walker, Bo Jackson, Barry Sanders, were runners who evaded tacklers and ran to the corners faster than the defense. But a QB is a leader and a decision maker.

Despite his father "breeding" him, I think his family should back off--I don't like Tiger Woods' father, the Williams' sisters' father, Michael Jordan's father, and so on...they just gravitate into some kind of managerial role, but they cross the line too often.

His year this year maybe the best year, but you have to Take Tebow over a 4 year career

My vote is Cam Newton.  But; I saw Dick butkus singlehandedly wreak havoc and beat good football teams.  The man was unstoppable.

Cam Newton would need one more year to be called the greatest QB to play at the college level. That kind of label needs more than 12 games.

I think he singlehandedly was the reason Auburn went undefeated, and not 8-4. There were4 games that he made every single play they needed to keep a winning drive going. The rest of the games were blowouts. You can't call someone the greatest based on four games.

I don't know what kind of spokesperson he is for the game, and probably  not the poster child everyone wants for a Heisman winner. So what? He wins games in the toughest defensive division we have.Impressive.

I beleive I saw Barry Sanders play two college football games - the last game of the regular season against OU (some kid dropped a game-winning pass for State) and the ensuing bowl, where they beat Wyoming (?) by 100 or so.  Those two games were astounding, but they were just two games.  He sat behind Thurman Thomas for a couple of year (nice recruiting, Pat Hill ). 

I wonder if we'd see Herschell Walker or Bo Jackson at QB if they were around today.  They were probably the two best I've seen over the long haul.  Newtwon's pretty freaking special though.  I hope Auburn can meet his 2011 salary demands.  They can't risk having him go to arbitration, so look for a deal to the Yankees if they can't get him signed before the title game.

Tommie Frazier was indeed a great player - I still remember that great run he had against the Gators in the Fiesta Bowl - but he also benefited from one of the best offensive lines EVER, not to mention having a monster RB in Lawrence Phillips. That's why I couldn't place him above Tebow or Ward. Remember, Frazier missed most of the 1994 season with his blood clotting issue, and Nebraska didn't miss a beat until he came back for the Orange Bowl.

That doesn't have anything to do with the question. You must be an Auburn hater. Bama fan maybe?

impossible to answer these type questions, but i wonder if archie griffin belongs in the mix??

i would say that ward was the best college athlete ever. qb and point guard. and his senior year throwin the pill was sick. ward over newton but if newton can duplicate this season to next season it'll be good conversation.
