The difference is the nfl teams go through a playoff system to earn the right to play for the championship, look at bama's non conference schedule compared to lsu

exactly.  The argument about the super bowl and any other championship does not hold up because of this very reason.

ok Jimmy. You can try to bully the conversation all you want but wrong is still wrong.

Of course Bama will get the BCS trophy if they win the game. As you have already stated this is the rule as agreed on by the coaches.  No arguing that one.  But if Bama wins I would not be surprised if LSU still gets a share of the championship through the AP.

And your super bowl argument only makes sense on the surface.  The very way that NCAA Div I football decides their championship (i.e. not through the traditional playoff route) makes it a soft comparison.  I am not sure any other way to put it.

FACT IS UNDER THE CURRENT SYSTEM..THE WINNER OF THE GAME IS THE CHAMPION.  PERIOD.  END OF STORY..NO DEBATE.

 I ALSO THINK THE BCS GOT IT RIGHT (under this system). THE BEST TWO TEAMS IN THE COUNTRY  ARE PLAYING IN THE TITLE GAME. UNFORTUNATLEY THEY ARE BOTH FORM THE SAME CONFERENCE AND HAVE ALREADY PLAYED ONCE.  I AM A BIG TEN FAN BUT THE BEST FOOTBALL RIGHT NOW IS IN THE S.E.C. PERIOD

All sports have a championship format that are agree upon by the participants thereof, and college football is no different.  The team that follows the predetermined path to win the championship is the champion.  It's that simple.

In 2008 the New York Giants were the team to do it in the NFL even though the New England Patriots had "a more impressive resume."  When Alabama beats LSU (and they will beat LSU), then they are the team that has met all the requirements to be crowned the champion.

Please give me one example of any team in any sport, anywhere in the world, at any time in the history of the world who was awarded a championship after losing a championship game.

For the BCS championship this is correct.  But how about for the AP? The MAJOR difference in div I college football is that the rankings are determined by votes not by a playoff system.  And so once again I will say that

1) the super bowl comparison is a soft comparison

and

2) if Bama does win it will not surprise me one bit if LSU is still #1 in the AP poll.

Couldn't agree more. If i made a future wager in the beginning of the season for ALAB to win the national championship i will be paid after this game should Alab win. Period. The ticket does not say if they are #1 in this poll or that poll. You can argue all you want till your blue in the face who should be #1 but who ever has that ticket gets paid and thats all i care about.

There clearly has to be a 3rd game played between the 2 in order to TRULY have an undisputed champion.

Yes, it's football. But using the sport of boxing as an example, there has to be a re-match, to have a clear cut champion.

Until there is a re-match (and of course there won't be one), this debate will go on for the rest of our lives, as to which team is the true champion.

And just for people to say...well the BCS this and the current system that...BLAH, BLAH, BLAH...means absolutely nothing in the majority of people's minds.

There will be controversy over who is the champion forever.
