Dave Aranda (Baylor) is a dead man walking, especially if his team goes down in Week 1. Think it will be tough for him to prepare for an unknown Auburn with all the injuries and players who have left the program. Sounds like insiders don't think very highly of DJ Lagway; the offense might be awful. -7.5 might be a gift in this one.

To write off Texas A&M because of their schedule seems like a pretty casual take (love that tag by Josh Pate). Their turnover on the OL is very much a concern of mine and the development of Reed at QB will be big, but to think they just automatically turn back into Texas 8 & 4 because their schedule isn't as easy as it was a year ago is missing a full review. Reed is back for year 3, RB Rueben Owens is back, WR's Craver and Bethel-Roman are back, and Bussey is poised for a bigger role even with a transfer addition of Isaiah Horton from Alabama.
Their 5 toughest games are:
@ LSU - Catching the Tigers in September before they can establish an identity. Also the week after Lane and company go back to Oxford for the first time since leaving.
@ Bama - The Tide should have their QB comfortable by late October, but how will that Bama OL be ready for what Elko and company have to throw at it? Potential rock fight.

I love Brent as a DC but I am not sold on him as HC yet. I thought it was a smart move for him to bring in Ben Arbuckle when he brought in John Mateer. Worked out pretty well for him in year one but the Sooners have not had much of a run game. No 1,000 yard backs since Eric Gray in 2022 in Venables' first year as the Sooners' head coach. The Sooners OL should be improved from last season and both Blaylock and Robinson showed some good flashes last season and of course Mateer himself can pull it and run as well but the Sooners will need the RB room to step up and the OL to be stronger at the point of attack for them to be able to find their way back to the CFB Playoffs as they did a year ago.
Defensively, Venables has guys who have been in his system stepping in to fill in positions where they lost some guys to the NFL. Kip Lewis is a very good LB, Peyton Bowen is a very experienced Safety who is now going into his 4th year under BV. They do have to fill in the big shoes of R Mason Thomas at Edge but I do trust Venables to know who he has and how he can put them in position to cause chaos.

Deion Sanders came in and brought so much juice to a down bad Colorado program. The stadium immediately filled when they brought some NFL talent to Boulder. 1st year struggles were to be expected and then they found success year 2 with Shedeur making a lot happen behind a below average OL. They benefitted from not seeing Arizona State (eventual Big 12 Champ), Iowa State, or BYU, who finished as the Top 3 teams in the Big 12. Hunter won the Heisman and the Buffs saw 4 players drafted. 2025 was the year we got to see what Sanders was building and not just brought in with him from his start and brother, it was a tough watch. 3-9 record, 1-8 in Big 12 play. They Went out and got Brennan Marion as their OC to replace Pat Shurmur and promoted Chris Marve, who was originally hired as the LB coach back in December of 2025, to be their DC.
Between the OL and DL, there wasn't a whole lot of positive notes in the offseason that would point to big improvements. Both of those fronts were bullied last season. Colorado isn't in the same tax bracket for the portal to be a true haul, so I'm not buying an ounce of the "Colorado landed another Top 25 PORTAL class!". They lost their only bright spot in OT Jordan Seaton, who left for LSU in the offseason. Marion likes to run the ball to set up the pass in his Go-Go Offense, gonna be hard to do when no one thinks you have enough time to set up the pass. Damian Henderson and JaQuail Smith followed Brennan from Sac State but this is a pretty big jump in competition level going from seeing the likes of Idaho State, Cal Poly, Montana, Portland State. To now going up against Georgia Tech (Week 1), Texas Tech, Utah, @ Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Arizona State, Houston...
Weber State is the only game I can safely say Colorado will be favored against. on the road @ Northwester, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Arizona State, Cincinnati. 3-9 is well within the realm of possibility. If Colorado comes out of their week 11 loss to Houston with a 1-9 record, will they quit on the season before a road trip to Cincy? Will Deion's health come into play? Deion has not built anything; it's been pieced together with scotch tape and his name. How long until the administration sees what I think a lot of us see? He is due around $30-33M if fired. The Buffalos might be tied to the ship that never should have left the harbor.

If this Texas roster can't do it, then maybe they are just the less annoying Texas A&M. I'm willing to rank them based on the potential I see and be wrong more than I am willing to BET their potential and be wrong.

Spent 10 minutes this morning talking up Kyle Whittingham as a stabilizing force for a Michigan program that has clearly been very shaky behind the scenes for a few years now. While I do think he is a great bridge piece to bring some backbone back to the football program and can make great improvements quickly based on having arguably the most talent he has ever had on his roster... Their schedule is so damn tough.
The Wolverines have an out of conference game against Oklahoma week 2. They play all three top dogs of the Big 10 (Indiana, @ Oregon, @ Ohio State). The best case I can see is 10-2, as they're a clear step behind the Top 3 contenders in the conference, but rivalry games always have weird potential. They will be in a transition year, as Whit didn't have a large chunk of Utah players come with him to Michigan, so there will likely be more growing pains than the examples of Indiana when Cig took over or what could be a smooth transition at UCLA, where Bob Chesney took a lot of his key guys from JMU across the country with him.
The team I keep coming up with as undervalued this year is: Florida
The Gators are still over 50% on the Blue Chip Ratio. I think Sumrall is a home run hire, and he nailed his OC hire in Buster Faulkner. Faulkner brought over QB Aaron Philo with him from Georgia Tech which is a lot of familiarity with the offensive system as he steps into the starting role. The Gators have arguably one of the best running backs in the country in Jadan Baugh who was tempted by many to enter the portal but found quick respect for Sumrall. They have playmakers at WR in Eric Singleton Jr, Dallas Wilson, Vernell Brown III. Defensively, they hired Brad White, who had been DC at Kentucky under Mark Stoops for 6 years and helped produce some very pesky defenses for a program that lacked top level talent. Brendan Bett will look to clog the middle at DT, they brought in DE Emmanuel Oyebadejo from Jacksonville State who was a standout earning All-CUSA recognition for his play. Jayden Woods will likely be the Jack in White's scheme putting all his athletic ability at 6'3" 245 to good use. The secondary is my worry as they lack some proven CB's who will have to face the likes of Nitro Tuggle, Nyck Harbor, Cam Coleman, Ryan Wingo, Isaiah Sategna, Cayden Lee, and whoever decides to step up for Georgia for the targets Branch leaves behind. I can see a world where undefeated Florida goes into Austin to take on the Longhorns. I don't feel like I'm really having to do many backflips to get them to 9-3, which is funny, because I've seen more people pick Auburn to reach 8 wins than Florida.
