Look for this to be a close game. With the ability of Seth Doege, 7 points is too much to give him regardless if he's playing on the road and against a tough Kansas State defense. There's an urgency for both teams here and expect them to make this a nail biter.
Big 12 Matchup of the Week Pick: Texas Tech +7
Lay the chalk
Oklahoma will stack the box and force Notre Dame to try to win this game on the arm of Everett Gholston or Tommy Rees and that is a disaster waiting to happen, considering the numbers we just mentioned the Sooners are holding opposing passing games to. The Irish cannot pass the ball very well. They are averaging just 194 through the air and a 58% completion percentage.
Do you really want to trust backing your money on the arm of Everett Gholston or Tommy Rees, trying to beat Oklahoma through the air this game? I certainly don't, simply because it's not going to happen. I'm hopping off the Notre Dame bandwagon and not putting them on my picks ticket this week.
Free College Football Picks: Notre Dame gets exposed badly. Play Oklahoma -10.
Arizona’s latest win brought Rich Rodriguez’ squad to a 3-1 ATS clip in its last four home dates. Scott (140.8) is just three slots behind Barkley (164.1) among the Pacfic-12’s quarterback ratings, while the Wildcats lead the conference in offense (548.7 YPG).
NCAAF betting lines have overvalued USC away from home, going 0-4 ATS in the span’s four spots. The Trojans were held to 29.5 PPG over that stretch, with a 25.3 PPG mark against conference foes.
Arizona is 6-1 ATS in its last seven meetings with Southern Cal, including a cashed ticket in last October’s 48-41 defeat as a 12 ½-point road dog. Look for the Wildcats to stay close enough with some revenge here, while USC looks ahead to next weekend’s matchup with the No. 4 Oregon Ducks.
College Football Picks: Arizona to cover
Outlook & Initial Prediction
Mississippi State has not yet played an upper-tier SEC team, so it looks like their unblemished record is little more than a mirage. Usually, sportsbooks and Vegas odds makers know what they’re doing. This is too tall and order for the Bulldogs to go into Tuscaloosa and steal a win. It’s even too much to ask of them to go there and cover.
College Football Pick: Alabama -24
Prediction
I’m going to recommend that readers back the Bearcats in this situation, as I’m not turned off by their loss to the Rockets last week, especially when you consider they didn’t allow an offensive touchdown in that game. The Cardinals have dropped four of their last five games when playing on friday night, which includes a 1-2 mark under current head coach Charlie Strong.
College Football Week 9 Pick: Cincinnati Bearcats +4
A Forest
Meanwhile, in Winston-Salem, the Demon Deacons are doing their best anti-Clemson impersonation. They’ve improved on defense since last year, but have fallen into a black hole on offense, ranking No. 100 in efficiency and scoring just 22 points per game to Clemson’s 40.9. The UNDER has been paid in back-to-back road games to break even at 3-3 for Wake.
This will not do. Jim Grobe won multiple Coach of the Year honors in 2006 when his defensively-minded Deacs went to the Orange Bowl, earning Grobe a fat contract extension. It’s been slim pickings since then. But last week’s 16-10 victory at Virginia (–3) was a defensive gem. Wake is still No. 82 on the overall efficiency index, but with some upside.
Enough to handle Clemson? Their only common opponent thus far has been the Seminoles, who hosted Wake in Week 3 (one week before the Tigers) and flattened them 52-0 as 28-point faves. Not encouraging. But the Tigers are 0-2 ATS this year when laying at least 13 points, while the Deacs are 3-1 ATS as underdogs, winning twice SU. I’ll add Wake to my college football picks as a value play.
My College Football Pick: Wake Forest +13.5
Outlook & NCAA Football Betting Prediction:
It's hard for TCU to lose linebackers, but it's even harder for a team to replace its starting quarterback and tight end in one week. Oklahoma State might adjust in the future, but it will have a hard time making the quick turnaround this week. TCU looks like a live dog and might even win outright.
