Why is #18 Butler underdog to Louisville ?

Butler has a very good team..Louisville has a VERY young team, with little experience. Can someone help me understand this...

New arena opening up first game. I will blindly play the Ville like I did their last game in Freedom Hall.

Butlers team is stacked....losing in the finals to Duke last year. Louisville has no returning starters from last year.

Butler will be 2-0 after this game

no but a clear discrepancy in talent between these two teams certainly does. new arena or old it doesn't matter, butler wins this

I would not say there is a clear discrepancy in talent between Louisville and Butler.  If anything I would say L'ville has better talent.  Although Butler is a veteran team that has played together longer, and has a great coach.  To open the year, I think Butler will be the team over valued and L'ville will be the under rated team.  Not saying I think L'ville wins this game.  But to say the talent discrepancy between these 2 schools is the reason why Butler wins is not accurate.

the reason lousiville won't lose certainly isn't their new arena. the reason one team wins over another is the players continuity on the floor meshed with their raw talent, which in this case clearly points to a butler victory. lousiville may have better talent but it certainly isn't proven and not refined like butler's players

That is exactly what I was saying.  Although, I do remember a certain Syracuse team getting blown out by a far less talented Louisville team at the end of the regular season.  BOL with your play tonight jc750.

I am sorry but I have to disagree that a new arena means nothing. There are certain situational plays that you have to take into consideration. Also Louisville plays the style that BUtler will struggle with this year with BUtler's main scoring coming from Mack. I think that Louisville gets a win at home and then goes on the instant fade list on the road.

You might want to wait and see how they start, seeing as they don't play a road game until Dec. 22nd, and its only like an hour drive since its at Western Ky.  Their first true road game isn't until Jan 9th @ So. Florida and then Jan 12 @ Villanova.  Personally, Western Ky and So Florida aren't the sort of team im automatically betting on in those matchups....

I already have my eye on W. Kentucky getting points at home against a young team.

I was just saying I don't look at a trip to Western as a true road game.  Plus if the past couple years are any indication, Louisville will probably lose a couple of the those early home games and take all the value out of that line...

Couldn't disagree more. Most people will think exactly like the guy who started this thread (no disrespect to him) and take Butler wondering what the heck is going on and thinking they've been given a gift.

Can't speak to how it did in the 08-09 season but I know last year unranked home favs against ranked road dogs did very well. Wanna say it was something like 23-8 going into March

in my opinion, in this situation a new arena means little to nothing. lousiville's young squad doesn't have the understanding what opening up strong at home means and are not cohesive with one another yet this early in the season.
