The 5 second call was correct. I put a stopwatch to it. He didn't signal for a timeout until 4.71 seconds. You can't call time after 4 seconds.
Yeah TNT crew just mentioned that. I think that rule is news to most....never heard it before.
Either way Hamilton calling timeout, up by 2pts, Zona no timeouts left, and you're fixing to be sent to the line to shoot 2 is the play that lost Texas the game hands down! Bonehead move! I'm sure Barnes told them to call it so they could get the ball to J Brown. Barnes deserves to be fired!!!

I think the reason they got the 5 count was because Zona's coach was chewing out the refs during the Hamilton timeout. Makeup call puts me out to pasture for the rest of the tournament.

These games are tough, tough, tough. I did alright yesterday, but not today. The way several of these games ended this weekend has left me scratching my head. Just saw that replay again and that Texas guy got wacked pretty good at the end in my opinion. Wouldn't have helped me, but Butler got a late call yesterday against Pitt in the last second, but no call here. Oh well, what can you do.

Man, wild finish. Texas execution of timeouts and inbound pass is inexcusable. Because of that alone they desrve to lose, that being said there sure was a lot of contact on that last shot. I'm not a Barnes guy and think he takes this game to his grave.
Longhorns come back from 13 down to up 2 w/ 12 sec left... Joseph calls a smart timeout and because the referee can't count to 5 "they deserve to lose"????

TNT crew (Seth Davis specifically) retracted that statement now. There is no such rule....chalk this up to another game decided by the refs. Clearly he called the timeout before the 5 seconds were up!

Actually, that's not a rule in NCAA men's basketball. Rule 7, Section 6
which governs throw-ins, does not make this stipulation, nor is it in
Rule 9 Section 5 which governs throw-in penalties contains any
stipulation that would prelude the calling of a time out by a player
after the 4th count of a 5 count.
If you disagree, please post a
citation from the NCAA rules which can be found at

THERES SO MUCH INCONSISTENCY WITH THE REFS ITS PATHETIC AND I HATE WHEN BROWN NOSING DUMBASS KISS THERE ASS ON TV SAYIN OH THEY ARE SO GREAT. EITHER CALL FOULS AT THE END OF THE GAME OR DONT AT ALL. BUTLER GETS A WEAK BULLSHIT CALL BUT TEXAS DOESNT GET A CLEAR OVER THE BACK CALL. HAHA THATS THE SAME OLD GEEZER REF THAT SCREWED RUTGERS HES TERRIBLE FUCKIN OLD MAN
It's kinda pathetic that the NCAA doesn't have enough quality refs, that they had to use the one of the refs from the "I got screwed" Rutgers game!
I was watching it live, and I also thought that the 5 count was way quick and the Texas kid did call time out b4 the 5 count, but it is what it is...FIXED!!!

Did the refs make a bad call on that?? You tell me... If so then the kid made a smart timeout call.

He might be talking about Jordan Hamilton calling the timeout to set up the out of bounds situation.
I just dont get what jordan was thinking. He gets the rebound with 15 sec on the clock, he's all by himself and he turns and calls a timeout right away. He's a good free throw shooter and Texas's best player. Dribble the ball, run out as much time as you can, get fouled and hit some free throws. If you dribble into trouble call the timeout. Whats to panic about?
I know the refs 5 sec call and non call at the end also could have decided the game but Hamilton couldve prevented themselves from being in that position.
Its the morning after and I am still sick about this game. it went from joy on the rebound to... wtf
