Now that football season is winding down (my college teaching semster ends Wednesday) should have some solid time to cap and post. This play isn't for the faint of heart but here is briefly why I am now backing Depaul -3 today.
As I mentioned in my thread heading, this is both a matchup and situational play, here are the matchup issues: *One of Depaul's major weaknesses is rebounding, yet Central Michigan is a below average rebounding team themselves and their starting lineup goes 5'9, 6'5 (guards) and 6'3, 6'4, 6'7 (frontcourt).
Next, Depaul has been much stronger at home and plays a tempo (95,75,74 in their three home games) MUCH faster then Central Michigan is accustomed to and comfortable with (64 possessions or less in all but one of their 6 games). Even with the slower tempo, CMU is averaging more turnovers than assists per game (despite a weak schedule mind you) while Depaul turns their opponents over at almost 20 times per game (because they full court press relentlessly of course).
CMU also struggles defensively putting their opponents on the line almost 26 times a game which plays perfectly into Depaul's attacking offensive ways as they get to the line MORE than 26 times a game, this is a recipe for a 30+ free attempt game for Depaul. CMU is very good behind the 3-pt line converting 36+% from their, but this is also a strength of Depaul who is only allowing 3 made 3's per game (28%). Also, Depaul has struggled shooting 3's (21%!) but CMU allows opponents to make over 40%!
Situationally, this game sets up nicely for Depaul as well. This will be CMU's SIXTH road game in seven games (they have been on the road as their gym is getting renovated). On Wednesday, CMU opened up the new gym to a sellout crowd vs. Temple. CMU has a nice lead at halftime and ended up falling apart turning an 8-pt halftime lead into a 12 pt defeat. CMU's players and coaches mentioned the emotion of the game wearing on them and wiping them out during the second half of the game. This is a tough spot to try to bounce back from such a game (on the road AGAIN playing a team that plays a style they aren't comfortable with etc.).
Depaul sucks and them laying a egg is certainly a possibility, but given the matchups and situational aspects of this game, this is one Depaul should win and cover. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thank you SO much for pointing this one out. I can't possibly hope too cap every game but the moment Iooked at this one, I just loved it. Depaul gets to the line, CMU lets them, CMU shoots a lot of threes and Depaul defends the three. And at home, with a short number. Maybve im falling for something, but this has DD win written all over it. On it for 2u.

i know you know your shit kine, but the seems to be A LOT of love for Depaul today GL bud
I only read a few chosen poster's threads so I have no idea what games the majority of the posters on this site like, so it has no bearing on my capping of the game.

Hahaha - I don't even think I like this game as much as you do! Depaul is super inconsistent but this seems to be a good matchup and spot for them - nothing would surprise me on this game - just gotta go with the numbers and the numbers say lay 3 with Depaul. I'll also say that nomatter what the score is at half, i won't feel like its a win or a loss with these two teams involved.
