Yeah the Big East is great in basketball. But to call the SEC mid major is dumb as ill get out and strap up the pads and we will see who is a mid major in  a real sport like football

The Big East in basketball is like the SEC in football. Year in and out they will most likely be the best conference. Unlike all the other conference the Big East is so large and thus jsut about every style of play is played by a team in the Big East. THat allows the Big East teams to be ready for any style of play. IN addition the Big East seems to allow more contact than other conferences (maybe other than the Big Ten) and this seems to bode well for the teams come March.

 

JPero is a moron.  The Big-10 has a better record in the tournament than the Big East.  He is to bias'ed to realize that.  Also he is upset that UConn got stomped the F out by a 13 seed.  He is also sad that ONCE AGAIN the ACC has a winning record against the Big East.  It is kind of like Big East Football everyone gets excited and hyped up only to see them crumble horribly.  The Big East is a 16 team conference... likewise it would make sense they get the most teams into the tournament and have the most teams with inflated records.  Who wouldn't love 2 cracks at St Johns Cinci St bonnnies PC... oh yeah... UConn wouldnt want 2 cracks at PROVIDENCE.

It is also hilarious you say Sweet 16 "at best" they have to play UCLA you moron.  They can't even beat PC let alone UCLA... come on man

I think you just showed you have no knowledge of basketball or you just don't think before you speak. If UConn had made it to the sweet 16 the matchup would be UConn vs. UCLA... Thus in order for UConn to get to the elite 8 they would have to beat UCLA. THey would not have had to beat UCLA to get into the sweet 16.

You also say who wouldnt want a crack at the lower Big East teams... Well maybe you should check the Big East vs. ACC matchups this year because the ACC schedule an abnormally large amount of the lower 9 Big East teams (mostly the bottom 4) when compared to the top Big East teams.

Top 9 Big East teams that played ACC with result and where:

1) Marquette lost to Duke 77-73 in at a neutral site during a tourney.
2) Notre Dame lost to Gtech 80-79 at a neutral site during tourney.
3) UConn beat Gtech 80-68 (but gtech really stood with them ) at home as part of a home/away agreement with Gtech and UConn
4) Pitt beat Duke 65-64 on neutral court as part of a preseason tourney final (i believe)
5) Cuse beat UVA 70-68 away
6)  Nova lost to NC St. 69-68 on a neutral court during a tourney (this is when the phantom foul was called as time expired)

Bottom 9:
7) Cinci lost to NC St. 85-77 away
8) Seton Hall beat UVA 84-70 on neutral court
9) Seton Hall lost to NC St. 79-73 home
10) Providence lost to Miami 64-58 on neutral court as part of tourney
11) Providence beat BC 98-89 on neutral court but was played in Boston so semi-away game for PC
12) Providence beat FSU 101-95 home
13) Depaul lost to Clemson 90-74 on neutral court as part of tourney
14) St. John's lost to Miami 66-47 away
15) St. John's lost to Vatech 54-48 home
16) St. John's lost to Duke 86-56 away
17) S. Florida beat FSU 68-67 on neutral court during tourney
18) S. Florida lost to 74-61 away
19) Rutgers lost to UNC 93-71 home

So lets recap. ACC was 12-7 against the Big East; 3-3 vs. the top 9 of the Big East and 6-1 vs. the bottom 4 teams of the Big East.

There were 9 scheduled games between the 2 conferences and the ACC was home during 5 of those games. The top 5 ACC schools only had 5 scheduled games against the Big East and those games are #s 14,15,16,18,19 (came against the bottom 4 thus validating my point they refuse to schedule the better Big East schools).

So as I was saying these are not fables but facts.

Go live and die by your Bogus RPI because thats all that you bring up when comparing and making decisions about what conference is the best.

I think you forgot to respond to the thread where i told you UConn was so overrated and can't win away from home or on a neutral court against ANYONE with talent... and you wrote a 5 page thesis paper on how stupid I was... and then UConn lost to the Terreros in the first round

Actually you said that PomRoy ratings were the only ones that meant anything and the RPI was bogus.  And then to your utter dismay you discovered that they revealed the SAME EXACT THING   So now you base it on 2 tournament games.  You live in a fantasy world bro... get over it

You completely disregard Price going down but for the whole year you have been riding Singletary's nuts and making excuses when he would play poorly about him having a hip pointer and being sick with the flu and that if he had been 100% UVA would be in the tourney.

I said the PomRoy ratings are better than RPI, never said they were the greatest thing out there.

no way acc could be best conference, 25% of the teams got in and they have a 4-3 record in the tournament, if they would have gotten half of their teams their record would be worse. the big east got 50% of their teams in and have gone 10-5. only conference that appears to make a case to be better than big east is pac-10 which got 60% of their teams in have gone 6-3.

I  think  Mike Tranghese plan to absorb the  C-USA into the Big East is a  great  idea.  Not  only  will it expand  the  field  from  16 teams to  28  but  it  will  raise the  overall academic standing  of the  Big  East.

i guess you guys forgot about the pac-10 who still has three teams in the tourney as well, and are 2-0 against the big east so far, including washington state just beating the shit out of nd...
pac-10 best conference by far, big east won't have a team in the final 4

I can tell you this...I am Big East Homer...I think they are the best. I was in DC for 1st round thursday games.....Saw every game... Georgia was a good team, they ran out of gas. Xavier great resilience and FT shooting. Baylor/Purdue....not great but Purdue is young. Belmont....a good mid major, and honestly Duke was the same thing. Not alot of talent out there. Zona was decent but overrated for having supposedly 3 first rounders. WVU...by far the best team with the BEST player on the court.
 
Was also at Maryland/Virginia game the week before in Virginia. Great Arena...and great guard in Singletary....but nothing more talent wise than 2 mid majors out there. The ACC is just not that good and they have proven this.
 
How anyone cannot see that Big East has best talent and teams is beyond me. It took lat second shot for Marq to lose as well as Uconn....and Gtown gave game away. Only losses where team had no shot was ND. Even Pitt just ran out of gas.
 
Why some people like to argue when they know the answer is beyond me. The only 2 other conferences to maybe compare are PAC 10 and Big 12.

In  a  recent  espn interview Mike Tranghese , commissioner of the Big East conference stated..
 
....."We should  have our plans  to  absorb  the C-USA teams into the Big  East by  fall 2008.  We  are  excited to  welcome these  teams.  The new  name  will  be  changed  to  The Big-USA.  The  big (usa) advantage will be  tuition sharing....and of  course  our  SAT scores  will drift  higher"
 
All that is  good  but  just  listen  to  his  real  motive.
 
....."but  our  ultimate goal is  to  dominate the  ncaa basketball  tournament......sure  16  teams that we  have  now is good but  just  imagine  what  we  could  do  with  28 "

You must be kidding with this raise the academic standings crap...
 
Georgetown is a top academic establishiment worldwide. It is one of the toughest schools to get into and have some of the most accomplished alums in the world i.e. Bill Clinton, Antonin Scalia, George Tenet to name a few.
 
Villanova has become one of the toughest schools to get into on the east coast. Its business program is on par with most ivies, duke etc.
 
Outside of the Ivy League...Georgetown and Villanova would be in the top schools in any league. Stanford, Cal and UCLA in the Pac-10 would have an argument. Duke and UVA would have an argument. Where else would you look? Whoever posted the comment above should read fact not fiction.
 
Don't provide US News and world report because that has categories that tear down Gtowns ranking because of its endowment. In all the major categories-- acceptance rate, post grad salary, renowned professors, median SAT of students it is in the top 10.
