*IF* either team has at least one HIGH-SCORING starter in early foul trouble with 2.....or with 3 by HT or very shortly after intermission, they are in big trouble.

As a former referee I can confirm they are going over some things now in the ref room....ie, how tight or loose do they want to be, what to look for, etc.... A tightly called game likely favors the HAWKEYES since they play O mostly from the perimeter and allowing the LSU to score from the paint isn't a huge deal if the HAWKEYE O can keep scoring 3's.....

*IF* IOWA hits 7 3's by HT,  they ultimately win.....if 6 by HT, they still have a great chance....if 5 then it's a coin-flip....if 4 or less by HT, it's over for the Hawkeyes unless LSU gets into serious foul trouble...

We are only mid-way thru the 1stQ and IOWA has already hit 5

Last year in the Championship final, LSU led by 17 at HT... and won!

This year, LSU may not be quite as good as last year as the team records indicate fairly clearly, while IOWA has made an ever so slight improvement....

an_light LSU does not have the huge HT lead this year.... an_popcorn

IOWA hit 7  3-pointers in first half.....then added 3 more within the first 3 mins of 3Q

They now have 10  from the arc and their season avg is 11 per game, with most of the 2H to go!!

IOWA has hit their 11 3-pointers per game avg already with 3 mins left still in the 3Q....

I predicted if they hit 7 by HT, Iowa would prevail...

In Women's hoops, the way I've witnessed it typically go over the past dozen years  is one team wins the 1stQ, then the other wins the 2Q, then after HT one team wins the 3rd Q and in the 4th -- usually the other team makes a run to make it very close!!

As I wrote before, LSU has the bigs and the paint.

    But IOWA has the perimeter.

Which would we rather get: 2 points in the paint, or 3 points from the arc?

With 5 mins left and a 11 pt lead, the books have IOWA as a -2500 fav

Well SHITE!.....With about a minute left I was going to HEDGE BET because this game not going well for the homies....but I hesitated....now it's off the board and the Badgers have fallen behind by 4 with 31 ticks left........this is shapping up to be a BIG FAT LOSER  that I could have easily hedged out for only a fractional cost on juice....... sigh.....

I’m new to this but USC at half might be a good value with how much early foul trouble a depleted Uconn team is having already. Still staying away @fubah2?

Hmmm....boxscore metrics (stats) looked near dead even then and still do now (mid 3rdQ) except for the scoring inside the arc....so I skipped the HT for a further wait-n-see to get some edges in my favor... Still waiting with just under half the 3Q left but UCONN up 12....

I see the two players with 3 fouls erach on UCONN but neither of them are key players (scoring or rebounding) so imv, can be substituted without much if any dropoff....so at this point no worries on those two....

TO, steals, rebounds, 3-pts, and free-throws all nearly identical metrics......the concern is USC very low scoring percentage....

OK......as I was typing all that (I am a weak 2-finger typist) I see those two now have 4 fouls each.....OK now it's getting a bit dicey.....Their subs will be ok and there should be no significant dropoff imo, but if BOTH those two foul out before the final 4 mins, then if the score is very close I would look to grab USC on a + pt spread....

Still waiting with just under half the 3Q left but UCONN up 12....I see the two players with 3 fouls erach on UCONN but neither of them are key players (scoring or rebounding) so imv, can be substituted without much if any dropoff....so at this point no worries on those two....TO, steals, rebounds, 3-pts, and free-throws all nearly identical metrics......the concern is USC very low scoring percentage....
Down the final stretch we go in a close game but UCONN has solid lead....If this goes to OT, UCONN in trouble....but during reg they are still fine....under 2.5 mins to go...

OK the WOMENS final 4 is set for FRIDAY night in the beautiful metropolis of Cleveland!

3 seed NCState  vs  top #1 seed S.Carolina

                            and

3 seed UCONN  vs  #1 seed Caitlin Clark

.... and SC is once again a large DD fav despite failing to cover against their recent two very tough opps!
