My Redblacks vs Lions pick: First half Lions -6.5 (-110 at BET99)
This is a rematch from last Friday when the Ottawa Redblacks upset the BC Lions 34-33 at TD Place. The Redblacks were down 30-16 in the fourth quarter but were able to pull off the comeback thanks to a missed BC field goal attempt that they swung into a TD in the final minute.
The Leos are clearly the more talented team in this matchup. Especially on offense, where they lead the CFL in yards per play (7.6), touchdowns (34), and second-down conversion rate (53.4%).
They should shred an Ottawa defense that struggles to generate pressure and is vulnerable in the back end. The Redblacks are second-last in the league in yards allowed per play (6.90) while ranking last in sacks (13).
On the other side of the ball, backup quarterback Dustin Crum will make another start for Ottawa with Dru Brown dressing as the third-stringer after coming off the IL. Crum threw for 301 yards last week, but with how inconsistent he is as a passer, I'm not sold on him playing well in consecutive weeks.
I'm expecting positive regression from Lions quarterback Nathan Rourke, who threw for 284 yards and two picks last Friday after averaging 348.4 passing yards per game in his previous seven contests.
The Leos' biggest issue has been closing out games, but they tend to get off to good starts. They've covered the first-half spread in six of their last seven games, and I expect them to jump out to an early lead in a revenge spot on Friday.
