Despite Zach Collaros’ suspension last week, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers didn't miss a beat in their 34-20 trouncing of the BC Lions.
With Lions QB Nathan Rourke banged up and questionable for Saturday, my Blue Bombers vs. Lions predictions expect Collaros & Co. to make it consecutive wins over their divisional foe.
Let's dive into my CFL picks for Saturday, June 21, with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. ET on TSN.
Blue Bombers vs Lions prediction
My Blue Bombers vs Lions pick: Blue Bombers -3.5 (-110 at BET99)
Listed as 2.5-point underdogs in last week’s home opener against the BC Lions, the defending West Division champs made quick work of the Leos, jumping out to a double-digit lead in the first quarter and never looking back.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers' defense rarely blitzed QB Nathan Rourke, instead relying on coverages that heavily confused the Lions pivot. Rourke completed just 12 of 27 attempts on the night, with Jordan Younger's schemes causing one offensive stall after another.
Fast forward a week, and my oh my, how the tables have turned. Despite heading to Vancouver for the rematch, the Bombers are favoured this time around.
Zach Collaros returns from a one-game suspension, and Nathan Rourke is listed as questionable after suffering an upper-body injury in the fourth quarter of last week’s loss.
The Bombers get a major boost at quarterback this week, going from backup Chris Streveler (who completed just 15 passes last game) to Collaros. The two-time MOP trailed only Bo Levi Mitchell in passing yards last season, and he won’t hesitate to air it out inside the dome at BC Place.
Meanwhile, 36-year-old Jeremiah Masoli could be in line to start on Saturday for BC, and he struggled in his return from an Achilles injury last season, finishing with a 5:7 TD-INT ratio in 12 appearances.
With a lopsided quarterback battle brewing, back the Bombers to cover this line.
Blue Bombers vs Lions same-game parlay (SGP)
Winnipeg’s offense is poised for a big night, and I’m backing the Bombers to hit the Over on their team total.
Including last year’s playoffs, Winnipeg has eclipsed 26.5 points in five of the last seven games with Zach Collaros under center.
Although starting running back Brady Oliveira is sidelined for Saturday, backup Matthew Peterson is coming off a 130-yard performance on the ground last week.
With both the aerial attack and run game set to thrive for Winnipeg, BC’s defense will have its work cut out for it all game long.
