Argonauts vs Blue Bombers Prediction, Picks & Odds for CFL Week 9

The Toronto Argonauts take on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in CFL action on Friday night. This is a rematch from last week when the Bombers were destroyed at BMO Field.

This spread has slimmed from -6.5 to -2.5 for Winnipeg, and my Argonauts vs. Blue Bombers predictions are going against the line movement.

My Argonauts vs Blue Bombers pick: Blue Bombers -2.5 (-115 at BET99)

This is a revenge game for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, who lost 31-17 last Saturday to the Toronto Argonauts. 

The Breaking Bad meme of Jesse Pinkman sobbing, "He can't keep getting away with this!" is how Bombers fans must feel about Nick Arbuckle. The second-string QB led the Argos to an upset win against Winnipeg in last year's Grey Cup and was fantastic again last week, passing for 316 yards.

Even though Arbuckle has played fairly well in Chad Kelly's absence, he's still not good enough to trust Toronto's offense on a week-to-week basis —especially on the road behind a brutal offensive line and with a non-existent run game.

Winnipeg QB Zach Collaros is out with an injury but the former MOP has struggled this year, throwing six interceptions in seven quarters of work. There won't be a big drop-off to backup Chris Streveler, who threw for 148 yards in the second half last week.

Streveler is a mobile vet who can run around or through defenders. He's been criticized for his passing ability but has improved in that area, throwing for 246 yards and three touchdowns when he started the season opener.

The Argos have been brutal on defense. They are last in the CFL in yards allowed per pass (9.7) while ranking second-last in yards allowed per carry (5.3) and rushing yards allowed per game (117.6). Streveler should be able to do enough to lead the Bombers to a win and cover at home.

Streveler threw for 148 yards in the second half last week, but he was playing with a negative game script. Coming on in relief to fit into a system designed for another QB can be a tough ask of any backup.

This week, expect a game plan from Winnipeg OC Jason Hogan that will be tailor-made for Streveler's strengths. Keep in mind that the Bombers have been plagued by turnovers, so expect them to lean on superstar running back Brady Oliveira and short passes.

That should lead to a conservative offense that will look to control the clock, so expect a lower-scoring game.
