Preview: Temple at Tulane

When: 3:30 PM ET, Saturday, November 19, 2016
Where: Yulman Stadium, New Orleans, Louisiana

Following a slow start to the season, Temple has had a very impressive two-month stretch. The Owls search for their seventh win in eight games Saturday when they visit Tulane in American Athletic Conference action.

Temple started 1-2 with losses to Army (at home) and on the road against in-state rival Penn State, but it has been mostly smooth sailing since Week 3. The Owls enter this matchup having won four in a row and sitting in a first-place tie with USF atop the AAC's East Division standings. Prior to their bye week, the Owls blanked Connecticut 21-0 behind their talented offensive weapons and a defense that allowed only 160 total yards. That could be bad news for Tulane, which is the league's lone winless team and has not earned a victory since October 1.

ABOUT TEMPLE (7-3, 5-1 AAC): Philip Walker tied a season high with three passing touchdowns against UConn, while Jahad Thomas caught two of those scores, giving him 14 total TDs on the year. Thomas has scored exactly two touchdowns in seven of the eight games that he has played in this season, while backfield mate Ryquell Armstead has 11 TDs of his own but was kept out of the end zone against UConn despite running for 133 yards. The Owls' defense has not allowed a point in seven of its last eight quarters and currently ranks 17th nationally in opponents' scoring average (20.4 points).

ABOUT TULANE (3-7, 0-6): Glen Cuiellette threw for 241 yards and two touchdowns in last week's loss to Houston, but he needed 42 attempts to accumulate that yardage. In addition, Cuiellette has not completed more than 55 percent of his passes in any game this season and has failed to surpass 50 percent in any of his last five contests. On the bright side, senior running back Josh Rounds is averaging 7.5 yards per carry over his last five games, although the Green Wave has lost each of those outings.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Thomas and Armstead each accounted for two touchdowns in last season's 49-10 victory by the Owls.

2. Temple allows 291.4 yards per game, good for seventh-best in the country.

3. Tulane and Temple are the only two teams in the league that rank in the AAC's top five in rushing offense and rushing defense.
