The Golden State Valkyries will look to extend their six-game winning streak as they visit the Connecticut Sun on Friday night.

Golden State comes in as a 5.5-point favorite, and I’m taking it to continue its winning ways in my Valkyries vs. Sun predictions below.

Read on to see my full analysis and to get my free WNBA picks for Friday, July 10.

Valkyries vs Sun prediction

Valkyries vs Sun best bet: Valkyries -5.5 (-110)

The Golden State Valkyries are perhaps the best defensive squad in the WNBA, allowing a league-low 76.7 ppg and holding opponents to a 48.2% eFG%. That will be hard on the Connecticut Sun, who rank last in points per 100 possessions (96.2) and eFG% (46.9%).

The Sun will also be without Britney Griner, who put up back-to-back double-doubles before suffering a quad injury.

Connecticut was always outgunned in this matchup, but I don’t see them posing a threat down their starting center. I’m taking the Valkyries up to -7.5.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Golden State has the WNBA’s highest 3-point shooting rate at 40.5%. That’s bad news for Connecticut, which allows teams to shoot 35.6% from beyond the arc.

Valkyries vs Sun same-game parlay

The Valkyries may like to grind down opponents with strong defense and slow-paced play, but that doesn’t mean they always play to extremely low totals.

The first matchup between these teams finished at a total of 167 points, and the Sun have both scored and allowed 80+ points in each of their last three games.

Janelle Salaun has hit multiple 3-pointers in five of her last six games and is playing an increasingly important offensive role for the Valkyries. Against a Sun team that does a poor job of defending the 3-point line, this looks like a smart addition to our SGP.

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
