The final night of the WNBA regular season brings a matchup between the Minnesota Lynx and the Golden State Valkyries. The Lynx have locked up the top spot, but the Valkyries’ playoff seeding depends on the result of tonight’s matchup at Target Center.
My Valkyries vs. Lynx predictions and WNBA picks expect Janelle Salaun and Veronica Burton to have strong performances as Golden State keeps it close on the road on Thursday, September 11.
Valkyries vs Lynx predictions
My Valkyries vs Lynx best bet: Janelle Salaun Over 12.5 points (-104 at FanDuel)
The Golden State Valkyries have covered the spread in six of their last seven, and Janelle Salaun's stellar play has been a major factor.
Salaun leads the V’s in points per game (15) across those seven games. In that span, she’s scored at least 12 four times, and she’s finished with at least 10 in six straight. That includes three straight games with at least 15 points heading into tonight’s finale.
Salaun has averaged 11.5 points across 26.9 minutes on the season, but her playing time has increased to 30.4 minutes over the last seven games. She posted at least 12 points in 16 of 32 starts in her rookie campaign, and she finished with 15 in her last matchup with the Minnesota Lynx.
Tiffany Hayes’ seven-game absence has given Salaun additional scoring opportunities, and Hayes is questionable to take the court tonight. I’ll take the Over on this modest points line, as Salaun delivers another strong offensive performance to close out her rookie season.
Valkyries vs Lynx same-game parlay (SGP)
Veronica Burton leads Golden State in assists per game this season at six, but she’s been even better as a facilitator across her last seven games. In that span, Burton has dished 8.9 dimes per contest, handing out seven or more five times.
Burton has hit the Over on this assists line in just 15 of 43 games on the season, but six of those have come across her last 10. I expect the V’s to keep this one close, which means Burton will be at her best.
Motivation is the driving force behind this pick. With the top seed locked up and no reason to fight for a win, the Lynx may not be at their best tonight. Napheesa Collier could rest for a second straight game, and Minnesota’s regular starters may see reduced playing time. Golden State, on the other hand, will move to the No. 6 seed with a win or fall to the No. 8 seed with a loss.
Winning tonight is crucial, and I expect the Valkyries to do everything they can to get a dub. Taking the V’s to cover the 7.5-point spread is a safer wager, which gives us a +368 parlay, but we can get a far better payout with +607 odds on this three-legger by picking them to win outright.
