The Connecticut Sun head to the Chase Center on Monday night looking to halt a four-game skid when they take on the Golden State Valkyries.

Both squads have struggled to light up the scoreboard this season, ranking near the bottom of the league in offensive output. That sets the stage for my Sun vs. Valkyries prediction — I’m backing another Under in this low-scoring showdown.

Here’s my full breakdown and free WNBA picks for Monday, August 11, including how I’m playing this matchup and a couple of bonus bets from around the league.

Sun vs Valkyries predictions

My Sun vs Valkyries best bet: Under 155.5 (-108 at DraftKings)

The Connecticut Sun continue to trudge their way through a rebuilding season, as they hold a league-worst 5-25 record. While Connecticut has been awful on both sides of the ball, it has been particularly inept offensively, where it is averaging a league-low 75.5 points per game.

The Golden State Valkyries have been one of the biggest surprises in the WNBA in their debut season, hovering around .500 all year and right in the mix for one of the final playoff spots. Golden State has accomplished this by slowing games to a relative crawl, as it plays at the slowest pace in the league.

For most of the season, the Valkyries have played just well enough on offense to beat teams while allowing a league-low 77.8 PPG. But now, even that level of offensive production is in question after the loss of Kayla Thornton (14.0 PPG), who has undergone knee surgery.

Golden State has now hit the Under in eight of its last 10 games, including six of eight since Thornton was lost for the year. Connecticut doesn’t like to play particularly quickly, either, and doesn’t have the offensive talent to push the scoring over tonight’s total. I’m taking the Under.

Sun vs Valkyries same-game parlay (SGP)

Under 155.5

Valkyries -7.5

Tina Charles Under 13.5 points

Along with the Under, I like the Valkyries to cover at home. Golden State has been the far better team this year, and the Sun came up 24 points short last time these teams met in California.

I’m also taking Sun center Tina Charles to hit the Under on 13.5 points, a consequence of being on the losing side in a low-scoring game.

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
