Two teams that have played themselves out of the WNBA playoff race will face off on Saturday afternoon when the Chicago Sky play host to the Connecticut Sun.

While both teams are playing better in recent games, Connecticut has been more consistent, and I am taking it to win outright in my Sun vs. Sky predictions.

Let’s break down this afternoon’s matchup with my free WNBA picks for Saturday, August 23.

Sun vs Sky predictions

My Sun vs Sky best betSun moneyline (+120 at FanDuel)

Nobody’s calling to break up the Connecticut Sun just yet, but they're enjoying their best stretch of the season, having won two in a row and three of their last four.

That’s nearly half of the eight wins the Sun have collected all year. They’ve also covered in each of their last four games and five of their last six.

The Chicago Sky look better as of late too, having recently broken a five-game winning streak by scoring a big upset over the New York Liberty on Thursday.

The return of Angel Reese has helped, of course. But it’s worth noting Thursday’s win was aided by the fact that the Liberty were without Breanna Stewart.

That’s why I put more stock in Connecticut’s run of play. While the Sun have struggled on both sides of the ball all season long, they have shown life on the defensive end at times, and have been excellent as of late, holding three of their last four opponents to 69 points or less.

That’s something that the Sky – who are averaging 75.7 ppg and are second-worst in the WNBA in offensive rating – will struggle to contend with. I’m taking the Sun to win outright.

Sun vs Sky same-game parlay (SGP)

Sun moneyline

Under 159.5

Tina Charles Over 13.5 points

Along with backing the Sun to win this afternoon, I’m also on the Under for my SGP.

These teams are among the slowest paced teams in the WNBA, and Connecticut has hit the Under in four of its last five games.

I’ll also take Tina Charles to score Over 13.5 points, a total she has hit in seven of her last nine contests.

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
