With big names in new places, look for Rickea Jackson and Angel Reese to make some noise in their debuts with their new teams.

New beginnings are the theme for today’s WNBA action, from the Portland Fire’s first WNBA game to the Las Vegas Aces opening their title defense to Angel Reese making her Atlanta Dream debut.

We’ll also get the first glimpse of the Paige Bueckers & Azzi Fudd duo, adding to the loaded WNBA player props on offer.

Here are my top WNBA picks for Saturday, May 9.

Jewell Loyd Over 10.5 points (-112)

After a long stretch as a high-volume shooter with the Seattle Storm, Jewell Loyd settled into a different role with the Las Vegas Aces last season — and she ended up with a WNBA championship ring.

Loyd averaged just 11.2 points per game last year, down from 19.7 ppg in 2024, but there’s room for an uptick in scoring in her second year as one of A’ja Wilson’s sidekicks. The continuity on this Aces roster should help, and Loyd showed her worth by chipping in 13.8 ppg during the 2025 WNBA Finals.

She’s also one of the major beneficiaries when defenses swarm Wilson and Jackie Young, so look for Loyd to cash in on some open looks today.

Angel Reese Over 12.5 rebounds

It won’t take long for the Atlanta Dream fans to embrace Angel Reese’s physicality and hustle, and she should be one of the big stories in today’s clash with the Napheesa Collier-less Minnesota Lynx.

Reese averaged 14.7 rebounds per game in Chicago last season, including three contests with 18+ boards, and that’s going to be her primary job for the win-now Dream.

The Lynx are overmatched on the glass, and Reese has averaged 4.6 offensive rebounds per game across two WNBA seasons. That’s a recipe for the Atlanta newcomer to make a big splash in her much-anticipated debut.

Rickea Jackson Over 16.5 points (-105)

It’s a new start for Rickea Jackson after the third-year forward was traded to the Chicago Sky last month, and she’s landed on her feet in the Windy City with big-time opportunities.

I expect Jackson to make a strong first impression tonight, especially with the Sky missing an array of key contributors, including Azura Stevens and Natasha Cloud.

That means a clear path for Jackson to spoil the Portland Fire's big night, driving to the rim and leaning on her 3-pointers, which she knocked down at a 35% clip last year.
