If the Los Angeles Sparks want to have any shot at the postseason, Monday’s showdown with the Seattle Storm is a must-win.

L.A. starts in ninth, 1.5 games back of Indiana, and 2.5 back of the seventh-place Storm. They have two games in hand on the Fever and three over Seattle.

Our Sparks vs. Storm predictions and WNBA picks think this will be another high-scoring matchup.

Sparks vs Storm predictions

My Sparks vs Storm best bet: Over 173 (-112 at FanDuel)

The Seattle Storm beat up on the Chicago Sky last time out, giving them five wins in their last six to stay inside the WNBA's Top 8. The work isn’t done yet, though. A win over the Los Angeles Sparks would do a great deal to solidify their playoff hopes.

A loss wouldn’t be the end of things, but the Storm close against the Liberty and Valkyries, and the Sparks could capitalize on any late-season slippage. The Sparks finish with four of their final six on the road, beginning with a three-game trek that starts in the Pacific Northwest.

Offense continues to be their calling card, ranking second in the W at 85.9 points per game, while ranking inside the Top 3 in field goal and 3-point shooting.

It’s been on full display in the last two wins over the Storm, outlasting Seattle 94-91 on August 10, just over a week after dispatching them 108-106 in a double-OT thriller.

However, the Sparks don’t always outscore their problems: L.A. is second-worst in scoring defense, allowing a whopping 88 points per game.

The Over has been a constant trend in this head-to-head, hitting in eight straight meetings. That includes crossing Monday’s line of 173 in four straight and six times overall in this stretch. Expect more of the same tonight.

Sparks vs Storm same-game parlay (SGP)

Over 173

Brittney Sykes Over 12.5 points

Kelsey Plum Under 2.5 threes

Brittney Sykes hasn’t exactly been gangbusters for Seattle since being picked up in a trade deadline deal with Washington.

She’s gone Under 12.5 points in seven straight games, but her one breakout game has been against L.A., where she went for 27 points. Sykes should have plenty of opportunities to score against a poor Sparks defense.

Kelsey Plum hit three triples last game against Washington, but she’s failed to hit three 3-pointers in a game in her previous four.

She’s only strung together back-to-back games with 3+ 3-threes once in August. Let’s take Plum to struggle from beyond the arc tonight.
