Fighting to stay in the WNBA’s top eight and in the playoff picture, the Golden State Valkyries open a home-and-home set with the Phoenix Mercury Tuesday.

The seventh-place Valkyries are just two games up on the 9th place Los Angeles Sparks, but they are also just 2.5 back of the 4th-seeded Mercury.

With two close losses already to Phoenix this season, our Mercury vs. Valkyries predictions and WNBA picks has Golden State taking advantage of all those points for a cover.

Mercury vs Valkyries predictions

My Mercury vs Valkyries best betValkyries +6.5 (-110 at bet365)

Golden State Valkyries’ biggest weakness – its inability to consistently score the basketball – bit them big time last game, getting crushed by the Atlanta Dream 79-63.

Since losing all-star and leading scorer Kayla Thornton for the year with a knee injury, the Valkyries’ offense has tanked, putting up just 74.4 points per game over the last 11 games.

However, they’re also 7-4 in that span, thanks to a defense that’s kept them in games, allowing just 76.8 points per contest, which ranks second to the WNBA-leading Minnesota Lynx.

The Phoenix Mercury, meanwhile, snapped its own two-game losing slide with an 85-82 win over the Seattle Storm.

They’ll look to knock off the Valkyries for a third straight time this season, winning 86-77 on June 5, before surviving a 78-77 decision on July 14.

At 9-7 on the road, Phoenix is just one of four WNBA teams to be two games over .500 away from home this season.

However, Golden State is a cool 8-4 in its last 12 home games and have yet to drop back-to-back games all season.

If the Valkyries can find just enough offense, they should be in this one on their home court.

Mercury vs Valkyries same-game parlay (SGP)

Valkyries -6.5

Alyssa Thomas Over 14.5 points

Veronica Burton Over 10.5 points

Alyssa Thomas has a very generous 14.5-point scoring line Tuesday.

She’s cruised by that number in four straight games, and in her lone meeting against the Valkyries, she dropped 17 points on 7-for-14 shooting.

Not to be outdone, Golden State guard Veronica Burton has topped her 10.5-point scoring line in three straight games, including 16 points of 4-for-10 against the Dream.

She also scored 17 points in her last game against the Mercury and added 16 on June 5.
