The Minnesota Lynx revenge tour may not technically include the Golden State Valkyries, simply because Golden State was not in the WNBA last year when Minnesota was so wronged in the Finals. But by no means should anyone look for mercy tonight in their first-ever meeting.

My Lynx vs. Valkyries predictions do not need to wait for clarity on Napheesa Collier’s availability. Minnesota has enough scoring to trust anyway.

Read on for my WNBA picks for Sunday, June 1.

Lynx vs Valkyries predictions

My Lynx vs Valkyries best bet: Kayla McBride Over 14.5 Points (-130 at bet365)

A knee injury sidelined Napheesa Collier on Friday night, questionable for most of that day until ruled out. A similar approach seems likely tonight.

The Minnesota Lynx was a much shorter favorite at Phoenix, then only a five-point favorite in what became a dramatic, last-minute win. Favored by 12 tonight, the Lynx simply should not need the MVP frontrunner to beat the Golden State Valkyries.

Such are the perils of expansion teams.

What Minnesota does need is to continue to fold Kayla McBride back into the offensive fold. McBride missed the first four games of the season due to personal reasons. In her two games back, she has looked in rhythm already. McBride played 30 minutes in her debut and then 35 on Friday, hitting three 3-pointers in both games.

With Collier in the lineup, McBride scored 15 points on eight shots. Without Collier, she scored 20 points on 11 shots. That latter workload should be expected again tonight.

A more cautious approach may be to take a McBride first-half points prop, expecting a blowout to limit her late chances. But sportsbooks are not offering that thought, and Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve may keep McBride in later than other starters simply to continue her return in rhythm.

McBride is a key piece of Minnesota’s revenge tour. With her, this offense fires on all cylinders with nary a weakness or missing aspect. Golden State should be an unfortunate punching bag to emphasize that tonight.

Lynx vs Valkyries same-game parlay (SGP)

McBride o14.5 points

Smith o12.5 points

Lynx 1H -6.5

Lynx forward Alanna Smith also saw her workload jump in Collier’s absence. She had averaged eight shot attempts through four games before going 8-of-15 for 19 points on Friday. Even with Collier around, Smith cleared this prop in three of four games.

As mentioned before, this offense fires on all cylinders with nary a weakness or missing aspect.

That should push Minnesota to an easy win tonight. Let’s avoid the full-game spread out of garbage time fears, but do trust a hefty halftime lead.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
