The first-place Minnesota Lynx head to Gainbridge Fieldhouse to face the injury-plagued Indiana Fever in the penultimate game of the regular season for both teams.

My Lynx vs. Fever predictions, WNBA picks, and player props expect a big game from Jessica Shepard on Tuesday, September 9.

Lynx vs Fever predictions

My Lynx vs Fever best bet: Jessica Shepard double-double (-160 at FanDuel)

With just two games to go and the No. 1 seed locked up, the Minnesota Lynx will give Napheesa Collier the night off in Tuesday’s matchup with the Indiana Fever. Her absence opens the door for big minutes and big production from Jessica Shepard.

This season, Shepard has started 11 of 38 games. In 27 games off the bench, she’s averaged six points and 5.8 boards across 16.1 minutes per contest. In her 11 starts, her averages have shot up to 11.8 points and 10.5 rebounds across 31.6 minutes.

Shepard has produced nine double-doubles this season, and six have come across her 11 starts. That includes three straight starts and four of five, including a productive 12/13 showing in her last game out on Saturday.

Shepard’s success in the starting lineup was most notably highlighted in the seven straight starts she had from August 5 to August 22, when Collier was sidelined. In that span, Shepard managed 11.9 points and 10 boards per game, including a 22/11/10 triple-double at Indiana.

As Minnesota’s de facto leading rebounder, Shepard should easily clear double-digit rebounds, and getting 10 or more points should be just as easy with Collier sidelined.

Jessica Shepard double-double

Fever moneyline

Kelsey Mitchell 20+ points

Over the last five games, the Fever rank fourth in net rating at 8.7, only slightly better than Minnesota’s 8.0. Both teams rank in the Top 5 in offensive rating in that span, though Indiana’s 96.2 defensive rating is far better than Minnesota’s 104.1.

With Collier out and just a pair of games left to get through before the postseason tips off, the Lynx don’t have nearly the same bite as they’ve had throughout their historic regular season, so I’ll take the home underdog to win outright.

Kelsey Mitchell is averaging 20.3 points per game, and she’s scored at least 20 points in 24 of 43 outings. She’s reached that mark in two of her last three and six of 10. With so many players out of action for Indiana, Mitchell should have the green light on offense. She scored 26 and 27 points in two matchups with Minnesota this season.
