Two teams looking for their first wins of the season clash Tuesday when the Las Vegas Aces visit the Connecticut Sun.

Vegas, the opening feast for the defending champion New York Liberty on opening night, are hefty 13-point favorites on the road in the WNBA odds.

Connecticut, with a nearly rebooted roster compared to the one that went to Round 2 of the playoffs last year, was dumped by Washington in its opener.

My Aces vs. Sun predictions and WNBA picks have Vegas letting out some frustration on the opposition on Tuesday, May 20.

Aces vs Sun predictions

My Aces vs Sun best bet: Aces -13 (-108 at FanDuel)

Despite a stellar debut from WNBA reigning MVP A’ja Wilson, the Las Vegas Aces were spanked 90-78 in New York by the Liberty.

Wilson had 31 points and 16 rebounds on a crisp 11-for-22 shooting from the field, but that was the outlier performance for Vegas. As a team, the Aces shot just 34.1% from the field, including a rough debut for new pickup Jewell Loyd, who had just five points on 2-for-10 shooting.

Backcourt mate Jackie Young struggled as well, scoring 16 points on a dismal 5-for-19 from the field.

They’ll try to get right against the Connecticut Sun, who watched a 15-point lead diminish into an eventual 90-85 loss to Washington, a team that missed the playoffs a year ago.

It’s an almost unrecognizable roster compared to the one that went 28-12 a year ago, claiming the No. 3 seed. Gone are stars Alyssa Thomas and DeWanna Bonner, while starters Brionna Jones, DiJonai Carrington, and Tyasha Harris also didn’t return.

Coach Stephanie White also exited to coach the Indiana Fever, replaced by Rachid Meziane.

Holdover Olivia Nelson Ododa got a start and finished with 18 points and eight boards, while veteran Tina Charles — on her second stint with Connecticut — led the team with 23 points and 10 boards.

It’s early, but there’s a reason why the Aces are tied with Minnesota for the second-best title odds in 2025 — and also why the Sun have better odds than only the expansion Valkyries.

Vegas has owned this head-to-head of late, winning four straight and eight of the last 10, with four straight wins by double-digits. Their dominance should continue, as Connecticut is still trying to figure itself out.

Aces vs Sun same-game parlay (SGP)

Aces -13

A'Ja Wilson Over 26.5 points

Jewell Loyd Over 1.5 3-point makes

Wilson’s debut performance didn’t seem like she was ready to hand the MVP trophy over to anyone else, and that should carry over to Connecticut.

Last year, against a legitimately good Sun squad, Wilson topped this total once, scoring 29 points and grabbing nine boards on 13-for-25 shooting. She missed the Over by a half-point in another meeting.

My concern is that this could be over early, and Wilson might not have enough minutes to hit this total, but I’m happy to gamble on the reigning MVP.

Let’s wrap up this SGP with Loyd and a bounce-back from her nightmarish debut. It’s hard enough adjusting to a new team, without the added pressure of facing the defending champs in the opener.

Loyd is coming off the second-highest scoring season of her career, but with the second-lowest 3-point percentage, just a 27.4% clip in 2024.

She’s too talented and the floor's too spaced with Wilson for her to shoot 1-for-6 from 3-point range again. I like her finding the mark on Tuesday.
