The WNBA’s opening weekend continues Saturday with a matchup of the league’s heavy hitters, when the Las Vegas Aces visit the New York Liberty.
It’s a battle of the last three title teams, with New York derailing Vegas’ quest for a 3-peat by knocking them off en route to their first franchise crown.
New York is a 4-point favorite in Saturday’s WNBA odds.
Our Aces vs Liberty predictions and WNBA picks has the defending champs starting this season the way they ended the previous one – with a win.

My Aces vs Liberty best bet: Liberty moneyline (-180 at FanDuel)
This head-to-head is dotted with star power, beginning with Vegas’ A’ja Wilson, the current WNBA MVP, a crown she’s worn three times in her stellar career.
Last season, she posted 26.9 points, 11.9 rebounds, 2.6 blocks and 1.8 steals.
After dropping their semifinal series to the eventual champion New York Liberty, the Las Vegas Aces decided to beef up the roster.
The most notable addition is 6-time all-star Jewell Loyd, picked up in a trade from Seattle.
But they’re also hoping veteran signing Tiffany Mitchell can add another dimension, while rookies Elizabeth Kitley and Aaliya Nah can get up to speed as contributors.
New York also didn’t stand pat, giving stud forward Breanna Stewart more enforcements, after she went for 20.4 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 2024.
That comes in the form of point guard Natasha Cloud, a one-time assists leader and member of the All-Defense first team,
Cloud should fit in nicely with a roster that includes stars Sabrina Ionescu and center Jonquel Jones, the league’s MVP in 2021.
New York has owned this head-to-head, winning six of the last seven meetings between these teams, including last year’s semifinal playoff, where New York wiped out the Aces 3-1.
Overall, the Liberty are 4-2-1 against the spread vs Las Vegas in those games.
New York tied for the best home record in the W last season, going 16-4 overall, though the Aces weren’t slouches on the road, going 14-6, tied for the second-best away record in 2024.
It’s no surprise either that these teams are 1-2 at the top of the WNBA Championship odds.
The deciding factor in this season-opening matchup is the juice the Liberty carry over from last year. It should be close, but I like New York to open the year with a victory.
Aces vs Liberty same-game parlay (SGP)
It’s hard to believe, but A’ja Wilson wasn’t the same wrecking ball we all expected when facing the Liberty last season.
In fact, including the playoffs, the Vegas star failed to eclipse her 25.5 scoring line set for Saturday in six matchups with New York.
New York’s defense is not to be messed with: they were third in defensive rating a year ago, and Wilson also has to work under her basket as well, trying to contain Stewart on the inside.
Speaking of Stewie, the Liberty forward hasn’t been dominant against Vegas either, but that line looks reachable.
It’s a number she topped once in the playoffs against the Aces, though she missed the Over by a single point on two other instances.
Playing at home and with the added incentive of opening game for the defending champs, look for Stewart to be a big part of the Liberty’s attack Saturday.
