The Indiana Fever are in danger of looking at the playoff picture from the outside. Losing its last two has pushed Indiana to just one game inside the WNBA’s Top 8. But do not simply fault Caitlin Clark’s absence for those struggles.

In fact, Indiana has done well without Clark, which should worry the Las Vegas Aces tonight.

My Aces vs. Fever predictions and WNBA picks trust the home team even without Clark. Tip comes at 7:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, July 24.

Aces vs Fever predictions

My Aces vs Fever best bet: Indiana moneyline (+115 at bet365)

Losing two in a row on the road to the New York Liberty while without your best player should not be seen as too concerning. The Indiana Fever were 9-point underdogs in both games, and while they did fall short of even covering those spreads, one of those ATS failings came because of a lopsided fourth quarter.

Indiana has held up well without Caitlin Clark, going 5-5 both outright and against the spread without her before those two losses to the Liberty.

Do not dismiss the Fever simply because Clark is sidelined.

A similar thought can be applied in the opposite direction to the Las Vegas Aces. They are sitting sixth in the WNBA standings because of regular struggles this season. They had not won three straight games until this stretch bookending the All-Star Break.

But Las Vegas was at least a 3-point favorite in each of those games, and a three-bucket favorite in one of them. The team should have won those games. The Aces went an uninspiring 1-2 against the spread, barely surviving two games as short favorites.

Do not endorse the Aces simply because they have seemingly turned a corner.

This plus-money chance on the home team provides value both in trusting Indiana and fading Las Vegas.

Aces vs Fever same-game parlay (SGP)

Fever moneyline

A’ja Wilson Over 23.5 points

Kelsey Mitchell Over 19.5 points

Clark’s absence emphasizes Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston in the Fever system. Las Vegas’s best approach to stymying Boston may be to lean on A’ja Wilson on the other end of the court.

If Boston is spending an abundance of energy defending the three-time MVP, that should lead to Indiana running more of its offense through Mitchell, who has the highest usage rate on the Fever roster aside from Clark.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
