UFC Fight Night Giga Chikadze vs Alex Caceres Picks and Predictions: Chikadze Keeps Caceres Contained

Giga Chikadze was crushed by Calvin Kattar when last seen, and he needs to rebound vs. Alex Caceres on Saturday. Fortunately for Chikadze, Caceres seems like a overmatched opponent, per our UFC betting picks.

Giga Chikadze returns to action and faces off against Alex Caceres in a featherweight undercard fight on the August 26 edition of UFC Fight Night in Singapore.

Chikadze saw his momentum derailed in a shockingly lopsided loss to Calvin Kattar, and he is not getting an easy rebound against the always-difficult Alex Caceres.

UFC odds have Chikadze as the favorite at -250, and Caceres is a +205 underdog.

Here are my free picks for UFC Fight Night: Chikadze vs. Caceres from Singapore.

Giga Chikadze vs Alex Caceres betting preview

Giga Chikadze looked to be a sure thing at featherweight until he got blown up by Calvin Kattar. The comprehensive nature of that defeat now has Chikadze in dire straits, needing to bounce back in a big way against a capable veteran opponent.

Before the Kattar collapse, Chikadze made all the right moves and looked like a future champion.

He is a solid striker that lands 4.05 significant strikes per minute with nine knockouts, rattling off three stoppages in a row before the Kattar loss. Chikazde excels at keeping his opponents on the outs with his punishing body kicks, and can stifle an opponent’s offense with his footwork.

Alex Caceres has won his last two fights and has looked strong in the process. “Bruce Leeroy” doesn’t exceed in any particular area, but is resilient and has the kind of experience against top-tier opponents that Chikadze sorely lacks.

Caceres has to rely on his 51% striking accuracy and experience if he hopes to spring the minor upset, and might have to risk getting in close to wrestle Chikadze down.

Inconsistency has plagued Caceres throughout his career, but he managed to keep a level head and surged to a decision win over Daniel Pineda in his last fight despite getting taken down three times.

Giga Chikadze vs Alex Caceres UFC prediction and best bet

There are a lot of questions about how Chikadze responds after the debilitating loss to Kattar. When you couple in the decisive nature of that loss, his age, and his inactivity, Caceres has a better chance than the odds indicate. It could have just been a bad night for Chikazde, and this fight is the measuring stick on if he’ll live up to the massive promise he had coming into the UFC.

What swings this fight towards Chikadze is Caceres' inconsistency. While he has been on a decent run, this is the type of stage where we’ll see him come up short. He has the tools to make this a tough fight, but in a straight-up striking battle, Chikadze outguns Caceres due to his striking power.

I see Chikadze getting off to a strong start, and trying to slow Caceres down with plenty of body kicks and overhand rights. If Chikadze starts fast, Caceres won’t have the power or the ground game to catch up.

I’m not doubting Caceres’ chances, I’m just siding on the fighter with the stronger technique and favorable style match-up. I like a renewed Chikadze to get back on track with a win.

Prediction: Chikadze moneyline (-250 at DraftKings)

The time off might be exactly what Chikadze needed.

Chikazde is too resourceful a striker to get rolled over by the athletic Caceres. Even if he does decide to fight at a measured pace to shake off the rust, his power should make a more telling impact. He is the busier worker of the two and should pick up on his activity once he gets a read on Caceres’ movement.

Caceres is going to come right at Chikadze, and I feel that we’ll get an indication that Chikazde is up for the task once he starts pushing Caceres backward. Being outgunned, Caceres will retreat and settle for a loss on the scorecards as opposed to a KO.

I’m taking Chikazde by a decision as my best bet for the fight.

Pick: Chikadze by decision (+100 at DraftKings)
