The Green Bay Packers picked on one NFC East also-ran last week and will try to take advantage of another this Sunday when they host the Washington Redskins while seeking a 10-win season for the 17th time in 25 years. The Packers remained in the driver's seat in the NFC North with a 31-13 victory at the New York Giants last week.

Aaron Rodgers threw four touchdown passes with no interceptions in the snow, and the 36-year-old is recognizing the importance of every game down the stretch as it pertains to playoff positioning. "I think home-field advantage will definitely help," he told reporters. "You've seen some of the bigger games this year from some of the top seeds, home-field advantage has meant something in those games. So we'd love to be one of those top two seeds and have to have a team come to us after a week break, but we have a long way to go until we get there." The Redskins will miss the playoffs for the fourth straight year but they are showing signs of finishing on a better note, winning their last two following a 1-9 start. Derrius Guice ran for 129 yards and two touchdowns in last week's 29-21 win at Carolina.

ABOUT THE REDSKINS (3-9): Guice missed all of his rookie campaign last year with a torn ACL and eight games this year with another knee injury, but he showed his talent in the win over the Panthers. "I've always had confidence," Guice told the media, "just had bad luck and couldn't really show it." The second-year pro gives the Redskins a glimmer of hope lining up behind rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins, who completed 13-of-25 passes for 147 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions against the Panthers.

ABOUT THE PACKERS (9-3): The win in New York gave Green Bay an 88-37 record in December and January since 1992, and this Sunday offers the team another chance to take advantage of the wintry conditions in which it seems to thrive. "Being in Lambeau Field in December, it's an advantage," right tackle Bryan Bulaga told reporters. "People can cut it one way or the other. They can say, 'Oh the Packers have to play in the lousy weather too and the rotten conditions.' But we're very much acclimated to the climate and the weather conditions and to the snow and the rain. Whatever it's going to be, we like being here in December." Wideout Davante Adams is heating up a bit as the weather cools, recording 27 catches in four games since returning from turf toe and notching his only three TD catches of the year over the last two contests.

1. The Redskins had 248 rushing yards last week after totaling 140 over the previous two games.

2. Packers RB Tyler Ervin, claimed off waivers this week, is expected to jump in as the team's primary return man for a team that has a total of minus-8 yards on punt returns this season.

3. Washington won that last two meetings, including 31-17 last season behind RB Adrian Peterson's 120 yards and two scores.
