Maryland @ Wisconsin preview

Both teams look to stay in the race for division titles when Maryland visits Wisconsin on Saturday in a showcase of two productive Big Ten offenses. Maryland has won five straight on the road – three this season – and features a passing attack that is led by junior wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who boasts 3,667 career all-purpose yards. The Terrapins meet Wisconsin for the first time and must find a way to contain Melvin Gordon, the nation’s leader in rushing yards per game.

The Badgers are second in the country in rushing (343 yards per game) and Gordon has averaged 217 in his last four contests, including 175 in the 38-28 victory over Illinois on Oct. 11 before a bye week. Wisconsin's defense is eighth in the nation in passing yards per game (169.2) and is limiting teams to fewer than 16 points per game in its last five. Maryland roared back from an early 14-point deficit to beat Iowa 38-31 last week and averages 35.1 points per contest.

ABOUT MARYLAND (5-2, 2-1 Big Ten): Quarterback C.J. Brown left the game last week in the third quarter with a back injury, but returned to lead the game-winning drive. Brown has completed 56.8 percent his passes and leads the team in rushing while pulling within 205 yards of becoming the fourth player in school history with at least 6,000 yards of total offense. Defensive back Will Likely leads the Terrapins with four interceptions and linebacker Cole Farrand has recorded 47 tackles the last three games.

ABOUT WISCONSIN (4-2, 1-1): The Badgers have won four of their last five contests, the only loss coming at Northwestern when quarterbacks Joel Stave and Tanner McEvoy combined for four interceptions. Gordon averages 174.3 yards per game, but will have to get efficient play from Stave (15-of-33, 187 yards, three INT) or McEvoy (58-of-100, 653 yards, 5 INT). Safety Michael Caputo leads the team in tackles (45) while linebacker Derek Landisch owns team-highs with eight tackles for loss and four sacks.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Diggs has recorded a catch in each of his 25 career games and totaled at least 100 yards receiving in a contest eight times – second most in school history.

2. Wisconsin is the third team in a Power-Five conference since 2000 to rush for at least 2,000 yards (2,058) in the first six games of the season.

3. Maryland PK Brad Craddock has made a school-record 18 straight field goals, including 12-of-12 this season.
