BYU @ Texas Tech Picks & Props

The Big 12 title game is a rematch of a November 8 meeting in Lubbock, where the Red Raiders and their ferocious defensive line overwhelmed Bear Bachmeier and the Cougars in a 29-7 final. But that final score could easily have been 49-7. The Red Raiders' defense suffocated BYU, holding them to 2.5 yards per carry while limiting Bachmeier to 23-for-38 passing for 188 yards with a touchdown and a pick. I don't expect much to change this time around.

Douglas scored against BYU in their regular season meeting, and is only getting more usage as of late, scoring six touchdowns in his last five games.

Tough matchup against TTU, a dominant defensive group surrendering just 258.9 total yards per game and 4.0 yards per play. They’ve been especially strong at stopping the run, allowing just 68.9 rushing yards per game on 2.3 yards per carry. 

BYU is 2-5 O/U in its last seven games away from home and now faces an elite TTU defense that already put the clamps on once in the first matchup. The Cougars aren't at a big disadvantage when on defense, however, according to most analytics.

Texas Tech's defense has been one of the surest bets in college football season, and a star-studded defensive front should handle BYU's rush-first approach. 

Texas Tech is 8-1 against the spread against Power Four competition, exceeding bookmakers’ expectations by an average of 13.3 points in those nine games, even including the ATS loss. Only three of those eight ATS wins were within one score of the spread. Oddsmakers have not caught up to Texas Tech.
