Dayne Crist threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third as Notre Dame defeated Boston College, 31-13, in the 20th renewal of the 'Holy War.'
Crist hit on 24-of-44 passes for 204 yards and Armando Allen had 76 yards, including a 2-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that capped the scoring.
The Irish (2-3) defense held the Eagles scoreless in the second half and limited BC to four net yards rushing.
Crist opened the scoring with a 7-yard touchdown run around right end. He then threw two touchdown passes later in the first quarter, a two-yarder to Kyle Rudolph and a 20-yarder to Theo Riddick to extend the edge to 21-0. Crist had 112 yards passing in the first 15 minutes alone.
True freshman quarterback Chase Rettig threw his first touchdown pass late in the first quarter for the Eagles (2-2), a 58-yarder to another true freshman, Bobby Swigert.
The Eagles then hit on back-to-back field goals in the second quarter to close the gap to 21-13. Nate Freeze hit a 49-yarder and then followed with a 25-yarder. David Ruffer countered the 13 unanswered Eagle points when he split the uprights with a 37-yard field goal as the Irish went ahead, 24-13, with 5:22 left before half.
Eagles sophomore Mike Marscovetra replaced Rettig at quarterback when the freshman injured his ankle in the second quarter.
