Alouettes quarterback Davis Alexander had no issues airing it out in Hamilton last week, but an 80% chance of rain and potential thunderstorms could set up a run-heavy game script for both sides at Percival Molson Stadium. Montreal’s ground game will have little trouble finding success against an Argos team that allowed the second-most rushing yards per game (105.7) last season, especially with defensive tackle DeWayne Hendrix sidelined for this contest. Meanwhile, Toronto’s O-line was the worst in the CFL last year, and the Argos only averaged 3.9 yards per rush in 2025. If Mother Nature has her say, the Alouettes are set to pull away in a low-scoring contest.

The Montreal Alouettes are fresh off an exhilarating OT victory in Hamilton, and Friday's home opener comes against a Toronto Argonauts squad that could have a tough time hitting the ground running. Former Argos head coach Ryan Dinwiddie is now in Ottawa, and Chad Kelly is set to make his first regular-season start since 2024 after missing all of last year recovering from a fractured tibia and fibula. Montreal has won three straight games against Toronto, and the Als' offense will exploit an Argos team that surrendered 32.4 points per game last season, dead-last in the CFL. I have no problem backing Montreal as near-touchdown favorites, and I’d play this up to -120.

The Over has cashed in the last five head-to-head matchups that came before October, and with sunny and clear conditions expected at Mosaic Stadium, a pass-heavy contest should be on tap, especially given the Lions’ elite aerial attack. Last year’s West Final was set at an O/U of 52.5, and that was despite conditions dipping to around -7 by kickoff, with both teams ultimately recording more rushing attempts than passing.

The BC Lions were essentially one first down away from punching their ticket to the Grey Cup last fall, and with added continuity under Buck Pierce heading into 2026, they’re the team to beat in the West. BC is my early-season Grey Cup pick to finish the job in November. Featuring reigning MOP quarterback Nathan Rourke and 2025 receiving yards leader Keon Hatcher, this team is loaded on offense and returns the majority of its talent after leading the CFL in points (31.1) and yards per game (431.3) last season. While the Saskatchewan Roughriders are the defending Grey Cup champions, they lost several game-changers on the defensive side of the ball, especially up front, including defensive end Malik Carney and linebacker A.J. Allen departing in free agency. Facing the league’s best offense, expect a highly motivated BC squad to settle the score at Mosaic Stadium, and I’d play this up to +100.
