Saint Peter's Peacocks vs St. John's Red Storm Box Score on Nov 13, 2021

Julian Champagnie scored 22 points as St. John's started quickly and cruised to a 91-70 victory Saturday afternoon over visiting Saint Peter's.

The Red Storm (2-0), who are incorporating 10 new players including six transfers, never trailed and improved to 20-0 all-time against the Peacocks after getting a one-point victory over them last season.

Champagnie shot 6-of-13 from the floor and hit five 3-pointers as the Red Storm shot 50.8 percent and made 44.8 percent of their 3-pointers after shooting 69.2 percent in their season-opening 119-61 rout of Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday.

Tareq Coburn contributed 17 points to reach 1,000 points for his career that includes a stint at Hofstra. Posh Alexander scored 12 points to go along with nine assists while Aaron Wheeler chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds.

Jaylen Murray and Clarence Rupert each scored 11 for Saint Peters. Top returnees Daryl Banks III and KC Ndefo were held to a combined eight points as the Peacocks shot 41.3 percent and committed 16 turnovers after nearly coming back to beat VCU in their season opener.

Coburn, Champagnie and Alexander combined for 30 points by halftime as St. John's held a 47-27 lead. The Red Storm took their first double-digit lead when a 3-pointer by Dylan Addae-Wusu made it 19-7 with 13:45 left and a 3-pointer by Champagnie pushed the lead above 20 for the first time at 34-12 with 7:03 remaining in the half.

St. John's extended the lead to 69-42 lead on a layup by O'Mar Stanley with 12:14 remaining and the closest St. Peter's got after that was 17 points the rest of the way. Champagnie finished off his latest big game by hitting a 3-pointer with 1:54 to go, putting the Red Storm back up by 20.
