Last Meeting ( Mar 17, 2019 ) L.A. Lakers 123, New York 124

The Los Angeles Lakers seek their sixth consecutive victory when they host the New York Knicks on Tuesday. Power forward Anthony Davis controlled the interior with 24 points, 11 rebounds and a season-best eight blocked shots in Sunday's 106-99 home win over the Detroit Pistons.

Overall, the Lakers posted 20 blocked shots -- one shy of the franchise record -- while forward LeBron James contributed 21 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists in the win over Detroit. The triple-double was the ninth of the season and 90th of his career for James, who leads the NBA with an assist average of 11 per game. New York lost the first two contests of a four-game road trip, including a 135-132 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday after scoring 45 points in the first quarter and allowing 47 in the second. "It was one of the wilder games that I have been a part of," Knicks interim coach Mike Miller said afterward. "We put together a big first quarter and then it flipped. But we showed grit to stay in the game and put ourselves in position at the end."

TIME: 10:30 p.m. ET. TV: NBA TV, MSG, Spectrum SportsNet

ABOUT THE KNICKS (10-26): Forward Marcus Morris continued his string of strong offensive performances by scoring a career-high 38 points against the Clippers and made 13-of-19 from the field, including 6-of-7 from 3-point range. "At end of the day, we wanted to win but took a positive step in our competition level," Morris said afterward. "For us to be in the game against one of the top teams in the league and have a big lead says a lot." Rookie swingman RJ Barrett added 24 points on 7-of-11 shooting after averaging just nine points on 13-of-45 shooting over the previous four games.

ABOUT THE LAKERS (29-7): Davis wasn't the only player rejecting shots as JaVale McGee swatted away six and Dwight Howard blocked five as the team threatened the club mark of 21 set against the Denver Nuggets on April 9, 1982. "We know we have another line of protecting if I'm out on the perimeter," Davis said in a postgame television interview. "Those guys did a great job of protecting the paint, and our guards did too." James has 10 or more assists in each of his past seven appearances and is averaging 12.6 during the stretch.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. The Knicks took both games from the Lakers last season and prevailed in eight of the past 10 meetings.

2. New York PG Elfrid Payton is expected to miss his second straight game due to the birth of a daughter.

3. Los Angeles G Avery Bradley (ankle) departed in the second quarter against the Pistons and X-rays were negative.

PREDICTION: Lakers 115, Knicks 104
