ATH vs LAD Picks

The Los Angeles Dodgers superstar went deep on Wednesday against the Athletics and boasts five dingers in his last nine appearances. The Japanese phenom is always a threat to put one in the bleachers, and he’s smacked six of his home runs at Dodger Stadium. LA hosts the A’s again tonight. Although Ohtani is 0-for-4 lifetime against A's starter Osvaldo Bido, I’ll still ride this bet given how hot he's been.

This one has some risk, but the plus money on the Over Ks is worth the risk here. Matt Sauer is a bulk reliever who is getting his first start today. THE BAT is projecting a good leash of 74 pitches and Over 3.5 strikeouts. He pitched on May 11 but threw just nine pitches across three outs. In his two biggest bulk games, he threw five innings on 78 pitches and struck out four, and went four innings on 42 pitches, struck out four, and picked up the save. There is room for a good 15 outs here vs. an Athletics lineup that strikes out at an above-average rate. On the season, the six-foot-four right-hander has 22 Ks to just two walks across the MLB and Triple-A, and is about a K/inning guy who is efficient

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman is averaging 3.2 total bases across his last nine games. The veteran slugger has recorded 2+ total bases in five of those games and has +102 odds of doing so again on Thursday. He’s obliterated right-handed pitching to the tune of a 220 wRC+ and .491 wOBA with a .379/.446/.736 slash line. Osvaldo Bido attacks lefties with his four-seamer (42.9%), changeup (20.5%), and slider (18.8%). Freeman has terrific results against all three offerings.

Freeman leads the NL in batting average (.362) and slugging (.698). The eight-time All-Star is on fire, slashing .441/.500/.779 over his last 18 games. He has also slugs .736 with the platoon advantage which he'll have tonight against A's starter Osvaldo Bido (4.75 ERA through eight starts). Bido is in the bottom 20th percentile in barrel rate and the bottom 10th percentile in ground ball rate which will result in deep fly balls. That will be especially beneficial for the left-handed Freeman today with a 10 mph breeze blowing towards the right outfield fence.
