Last Meeting ( Aug 20, 2011 ) Texas 2, Chi. White Sox 3
THE STORY: The Texas Rangers have not lost a season series to the Chicago White Sox since 2004. The streak will continue regardless of the outcome of the finale of their three-game set on Sunday as Texas is 4-3 against Chicago this year. The Rangers have won four season series with the White Sox and tied two others since 2005, posting a 31-22 record in that span. Saturday's loss dropped Texas to 7-2 on its 10-game road trip and was just its third defeat in 13 contests overall. Chicago halted its three-game skid and got to 4-4 on its nine-game homestand.TV: 2:10 p.m. ET, FSN Southwest (Texas), CSN (Chicago)
PITCHING MATCHUP: Rangers LH Derek Holland (11-4, 4.23 ERA) vs. White Sox RH Gavin Floyd (10-10, 4.66 ERA).
Holland came within one out of his fifth complete game of the season Tuesday as he allowed three runs in a victory at Los Angeles. The 24-year old, who is tied with Tampa Bay's James Shields for the AL lead with four shutouts, is 5-0 with a 2.63 ERA over his last eight starts. Holland settled for a no-decision against Chicago on May 24 after yielding four runs in four innings.
Floyd is 4-1 over his last six starts but has allowed 18 runs over his last three, including a no-decision against Cleveland on Tuesday in which he surrendered five runs in 5 2/3 innings. He has not pitched well at home this season, going 3-5 with a whopping 7.15 ERA in 10 outings. Floyd yielded only two runs - one earned - over seven innings at Texas on May 25 but still fell to 1-3 lifetime against the Rangers.
ABOUT THE WHITE SOX (62-63): Right fielder Carlos Quentin left Saturday's game shortly after it began as he injured his left shoulder while making a diving catch for the first out of the contest. X-rays were negative and he will be evaluated on Sunday. Alex Rios essentially replaced Quentin, coming in to play center field while Alejandro De Aza shifted to right, and produced a game-winning RBI double in the eighth inning. Paul Konerko went 2-for-4, leaving him three hits shy of 2,000 for his career.
ABOUT THE RANGERS (73-54): Ian Kinsler accounted for all of Texas' offense Saturday with a pair of solo home runs. It was his third multi-homer effort of the season and the 10th of his career. Kinsler's first blast led off the game, marking the 19th time he has accomplished the feat in the majors and sixth this year. Mike Napoli singled to extend his road hitting streak to 21 games. It is the second-longest stretch of its kind in franchise history behind Rafael Palmeiro's 30-game run in 1993.
FINAL PITCH: Saturday's win was Chicago's eighth in its last 24 home games. The White Sox are 28-36 at U.S. Cellular Field, the worst home mark in the AL.
