New York @ Minnesota preview
Target Field
Last Meeting ( Sep 25, 2012 ) NY Yankees 4, Minnesota 5
The New York Yankees had a perfect opportunity to put some more distance between themselves and the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday. Instead, the pitching melted down in the late innings. The Yankees currently lead the Orioles by 1 1/2 games in the American League East but are two up in the loss column. The Minnesota Twins are embracing the role of spoiler, having won three of their last four games against playoff contenders.New York took a 3-1 lead into the seventh inning on Tuesday before Phil Hughes loaded the bases and Boone Logan allowed all three inherited runners to score. The staff has allowed at least five runs in three of the last four games. The Twins swept a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday and never quit against the Yankees on Monday or Tuesday. Minnesota is deep in evaluation mode but young players like Chris Parmelee are combining with veterans like Denard Span and Joe Mauer to keep the offense humming. They will try to solve CC Sabathia in the rubber game Wednesday afternoon.
