Cincinnati @ Colorado preview

Coors Field

Last Meeting ( Aug 16, 2014 ) Cincinnati 0, Colorado 0

After one of the odder postponements in recent history, the host Colorado Rockies and Cincinnati Reds will play a split doubleheader Sunday to cap their four-game series. A water main break outside Coors Field that flooded a street and shut off the plumbing inside the stadium forced a postponement not long after the scheduled first pitch Saturday. It was the latest in a series of issues for the Rockies, who have seen a string of stars go down with injuries and are 19-48 since the start of June.

Meanwhile, Cincinnati - which claimed Friday's meeting after dropping the series opener - enters the twinbill three games out in the race for the National League's second wild-card spot. The Reds on Saturday placed star right-hander Homer Bailey on the 15-day disabled list with an elbow strain and selected the contract of Dylan Axelrod, who will start the nightcap. Colorado will welcome back reigning NL batting champ Michael Cuddyer, who was activated Saturday after being out for two months with a shoulder injury.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Reds RH Mat Latos (4-3, 2.95 ERA) vs. Rockies RH Jordan Lyles (6-1, 3.70)

Latos continues to show no ill effects from a variety of injuries that delayed his start to the season until June 14. He limited Boston to a run in seven innings Tuesday at home and has lasted at least seven frames in seven of his last nine appearances, posting a 2.77 ERA along the way. Latos is 5-2 with a 3.63 ERA in eight career starts versus Colorado.

Lyles is 1-1 over his last six starts but has a 5.46 ERA in that stretch. He let up two runs in 5 1/3 innings of a 4-3 loss at San Diego on Monday, issuing three walks and hitting a batter in an uneven performance. The 23-year-old struck out a season-high eight while allowing two runs in six innings at Cincinnati on May 10 to improve to 5-0 at the time.

WALK-OFFS

1. Reds SS Zack Cozart is 5-for-9 with a home run and two doubles against Lyles.

2. Former Rockies 1B Todd Helton will have his No. 17 retired prior to the afternoon game.

3. Colorado leads the all-time series 87-86.

PREDICTION:
Reds 5, Rockies 4

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
