Atlanta @ New York preview

Citi Field

Last Meeting ( Sep 8, 2012 ) Atlanta 11, NY Mets 3

Atlanta’s offense needed a jolt, and the struggling duo of Brian McCann and Dan Uggla provided it to put the Braves on the verge of a sweep of the New York Mets. McCann hit .155 in 24 games through Thursday, but responded with four hits, four RBIs and his first homer since July 27 on Saturday. Uggla, who hit .167 in a 41-game stretch through Wednesday, went 3-for-3 Saturday and is 6-for-11 in his past three games with a homer, two doubles and five runs scored. The Mets have lost four of five following a three-game winning streak.

New York sends Chris Young to the mound for the series finale. The 6-foot-10 right-hander has received three runs of support or less in 10 of his 16 starts. Atlanta counters with Tommy Hanson, who desperately needs a good start. In eight starts since the All-Star break, Hanson has a 6.20 ERA and has pitched more than 5 2/3 innings once.

TV: 1:10 p.m. ET, Fox Sports South (Atlanta), SNY (New York).

PITCHING MATCHUP: Braves RH Tommy Hanson (12-8, 4.40 ERA) vs. Mets RH Chris Young (4-7, 4.48).

Hanson pitched better in his last start, allowing just two runs on five hits in 5 2/3 innings of a loss Tuesday against Colorado. The weakest link in Atlanta’s rotation the past two months, Hanson has not won a start since July 30 and high pitch counts have contributed to early exits. The Braves have scored five runs or more in 13 of his 26 starts.

Young lost to Atlanta in the first game after the All-Star break July 13, allowing five earned runs on six hits in just three innings. He has won just once since the start of July, going 2-6 with a 5.07 ERA in 11 starts.

WALK-OFFS

1. Atlanta 3B Chipper Jones plays his final game in New York in the series finale. The retiring Jones hit .313 in 88 career games at Shea Stadium, but is hitting just .198 with three homers in 23 games at Citi Field.

2. New York OF Andres Torres, who left Friday’s game with a left knee injury, did not play Saturday but is listed as day-to-day.

3. Eight of Hanson’s 12 wins have come on the road.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
