San Diego @ Los Angeles preview
Dodger Stadium
Last Meeting ( Sep 4, 2012 ) San Diego 6, LA Dodgers 3
The San Diego Padres put a stop to the Los Angeles Dodgers' late-night parties. After denying the Dodgers in their bid for a third consecutive walkoff victory, the Padres will attempt to claim a series win on Wednesday when the National League West rivals conclude their three-game set at Chavez Ravine. Logan Forsythe ripped a two-run single to snap a tie in the top of the 11th inning as San Diego ended a three-game losing skid with a 6-3 triumph on Tuesday.
Andre Ethier continued his torrid stretch after recording his 1,000th career hit for his third homer in four games. Los Angeles was unable to hold a two-run lead after starter Clayton Kershaw departed and ultimately saw its three-game winning streak come to an end. The Dodgers, who remained 4 1/2 games behind NL West-leading San Francisco, dropped 1 1/2 behind St. Louis for the second wild-card spot.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres LH Clayton Richard (12-12, 3.74 ERA) vs. Dodgers RH Aaron Harang (9-8, 3.76)
Richard claimed his third straight win and fifth in six starts after tossing 6 1/3 innings in a 5-4 triumph over Colorado on Friday. The 28-year-old permitted two homers in each of his last two starts before securing the victory with 13 ground-ball outs. Richard owns a 6-2 career record versus the Dodgers, but took the loss on on July 13 after allowing just two runs in 7 1/3 innings.
Harang will make his third attempt to claim his 10th victory of the season on Wednesday. The 34-year-old has permitted three runs in both of his last two trips to the mound en route to a loss versus Miami on Aug. 26 and a no-decision against Arizona on Friday. Harang also received a no-decision after allowing four runs in seven innings versus San Diego on July 14.
