St. Louis @ Colorado preview

Coors Field

Last Meeting ( Jul 31, 2012 ) St. Louis 11, Colorado 6

The Colorado Rockies look to halt their six-game losing streak Wednesday when they host the St. Louis Cardinals in the middle game of their three-game series. Colorado fell to 0-4 on its nine-game homestand with Tuesday's 11-6 setback. With the defeat, the Rockies have lost 10 of 12 at home and overall.

If they hope to end their skid, the Rockies will have to find a way to control Matt Holliday, who is 10-for-20 with three home runs and 11 RBIs in five games against his former team this season. The Cardinals, who trail Pittsburgh by four games for the second wild-card spot in the National League, have won only three of their last 11 road contests. St. Louis added an arm to its bullpen prior to Tuesday's trade deadline, acquiring RHP Edward Mujica from Miami for a minor leaguer.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cardinals RH Jake Westbrook (9-8, 3.61 ERA) vs. Rockies LH Drew Pomeranz (1-6, 4.99)

Westbrook has won two consecutive starts, including a triumph over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday in which he allowed four runs over seven innings. It was the third time in five outings the 34-year-old had yielded four runs and the second time he came away with a victory. Westbrook has yet to lose to Colorado in his career, going 3-0 with a 2.18 ERA in four games - three starts.

Since posting his first win of the season on July 6 at Washington, Pomeranz has lost three consecutive starts. The 23-year-old surrendered a total of 12 runs over eight innings in losses to Philadelphia and San Diego before yielding three in 5 1/3 frames against Cincinnati on Friday. Pomeranz, who is 0-4 in six home starts, will be facing the Cardinals for the first time.

WALK-OFFS

1. Rockies rookie SS Josh Rutledge has recorded nine multi-hit performances in 16 games this season.

2. St. Louis SS Rafael Furcal missed his third straight game Tuesday with lower back stiffness while Colorado OF Dexter Fowler was a late scratch due to flu-like symptoms.

3. The Cardinals and Rockies are tied for the NL lead with 84 first-inning runs.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
