Arizona @ Milwaukee preview

American Family Field

Last Meeting ( Aug 11, 2010 ) Arizona 8, Milwaukee 2

The Arizona Diamondbacks tied a major-league record with four straight home runs on Wednesday.

Baseballs could be flying out of hitter-friendly Miller Park at a high rate again on Thursday as the streaking Diamondbacks try to complete their first-ever sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers in the finale of a four-game set.

The Diamondbacks (46-69) haven’t done much right this season, but the one area where they have consistently excelled is hitting the ball out of the park. The club is tied for fifth in baseball with 131 homers.

That power was on display Monday, as the Diamondbacks became the seventh team in major-league history to hit four straight homers in an 8-2 win. Adam LaRoche, Miguel Montero, Mark Reynolds and Stephen Drew homered in consecutive at bats off Dave Bush in the fourth inning.

The impressive power surge has Arizona on the cusp of its first sweep of the Brewers since the teams began play in 1998 – the year the Diamondbacks joined the majors.

Arizona will try to tee off this time against Randy Wolf (8-9, 4.81 ERA), who is among the league leaders in home runs allowed (23). It won’t be easy, however, as the left-hander is 1-0 with a 2.29 ERA in his last three starts.

Wolf defeated the Diamondbacks by tossing six solid innings in a 17-3 drubbing on May 8, improving to 9-3 with a 4.39 ERA in 17 starts against Arizona. He allowed two runs and nine hits in 6 2/3 innings of a 5-2 win over Houston on Saturday.

The Diamondbacks, who are seeking a season high-tying fourth straight win, hand the ball to Rodrigo Lopez (5-10, 4.66 ERA). The right-hander is 0-3 with a 5.70 ERA in five starts since beating Florida on July 8.

Lopez has fared well against the Brewers, going 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA in three starts, but hasn’t faced Milwaukee since 2007.

Lopez will do his best to keep the Brewers' bats silent. Milwaukee has managed just seven runs in the first three games of this series after averaging nearly eight runs over its previous six contests (5-1).

Injuries have been a big reason for the drop-off. All-Star Corey Hart returned Wednesday after missing two games with a sore back, but Ryan Braun remains out with a wrist injury.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
