The United States and South Korea meet on Saturday afternoon in an international friendly in Harrison, New Jersey as both nations prepare for the 2026 World Cup.

Mauricio Pochettino hopes to clarify his striker selection as Josh Sargent headlines a group of fringe players looking to make an impression. With both nations already qualified, we're likely to see some interesting lineup selections and combinations.

I explain why that means we’ll probably see goals in our USA vs. South Korea predictions for Saturday, September 6.

USA vs South Korea picks and predictions

My USA vs South Korea best bet: Both teams to score: Yes (-120 at Sports Interaction)

Betting on an international friendly is never easy, but it’s even trickier when you aren’t sure who will be playing or for how long. For Saturday’s match, we’re going to use that to our advantage.

Mauricio Pochettino has stated that this international break is the last chance for many fringe players to make an impression as he looks to finalize his core roster ahead of next summer.

As such, he’s called in multiple players from MLS. Multiple key players are missing either due to injury or a lack of summer rest. This is especially true in midfield, where Weston McKennie, Johnny Cardoso, and Malik Tillman all were left off the squad.

South Korea has already qualified for the World Cup, and Hong Myung-Bo has called in a squad with plenty of fresh faces. He’s got 12 players who each have single-digit caps in their careers, which should lead to some interesting lineup choices.

The United States have scored in six consecutive matches, but haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last four. Both teams have also scored in six of their last nine outings. For South Korea, they’ve not been held scoreless in any of their last nine matches. And just like the Yanks, both teams have found the back of the net in six of those fixtures.

The expected rotation and substitution patterns for this match will see quite a bit of change in the spine of each side. You have players on both teams, especially at the forward position, who are looking to impress and show they deserve to be included in their respective World Cup squads.

Toss in the question marks in goal for both nations, and the odds of either side escaping unscathed are lower than the -120 on offer.

Both teams to score: Yes

USA first-half team total Over 0.5

South Korea double chance

The Americans have often struck early under Pochettino. They’ve notched goals in five of their last six before intermission, and are good value to do so yet again with the starters likely knowing they’re only going between 45 and 60 minutes.

South Korea haven’t lost since last February, with nine wins and five draws in their last 14 matches. Meanwhile, the United States have won just one of their last 12 matches against teams ranked in the Top 30 of the FIFA rankings.
