The State of Mississippi will be abortion free as of Sunday

I was watching CNN today and saw a piece about how Mississippi is likely to be an abortion free state as of Sunday.

The abortion issue has become a dirty game of politics in Mississippi. Abortion clinics remain legal, as an amendment to the state constitution, was rejected by voters in November 2011, to outlaw the practice of abortion in the state. Article here

Lawmakers in the state refuse to listen to their people, and instead passed a law that required all of a clinic's abortion providers to be certified OB/GYN's, and all of them must have privileges at a local hospital.

The catch is that no local hospital will affliate themselves with an abortion clinic. The last remaining clinic has petitioned all hospitals in the state, and none are willing to support the clinic. You can only imagine what type of backroom dealings have gone on in the state to ensure that remains the case.

On a related note, CNN interviewed state representative (R) Sam Mimms who sponsored the legislation, and the guy is a complete douchebag with his shifty eyes.

Don't these guys get it? They are there to represent the people of Mississippi. The people of Mississippi voted in November that life doesn't begin at conception, and the people voted that abortion should be legal.

It shouldn't matter what these backwards ass politicians think, we don't care to hear them opine. Tomorrow will be a sad day for your state.

Restrictions on Abortion

In Mississippi, the following restrictions on abortion were in effect as of January 2011:

• Abortion would be banned if Roe v. Wade were to be overturned.
• The parents of a minor must consent before an abortion is provided.
• A woman must receive state-directed counseling that includes information designed to discourage her from having an abortion and then wait 24 hours before the procedure is provided. Counseling must be provided in person and must take place before the waiting period begins, thereby necessitating two separate trips to the facility.
• Public funding is available for abortion only in cases of life endangerment, rape, incest or fetal abnormality.
• Abortion is covered in insurance policies for public employees only in cases of life endangerment, rape or incest or fetal abnormality.
• Health plans that will be offered in the state’s health exchange that will be established under the federal health care reform law can only cover abortion in cases when the woman's life is endangered, rape or incest.

I don't know if I'm suppose to take your posts seriously... or if you are simply trolling these forums. With that said... I'll respond with reluctance...

Your statement couldn't be any more backwards thinking if you tried. Most of the time those seeking abortion, do so because they have limited means. Travelling out of state, in many cases isn't feasible, not to mention it shouldn't be necessary. I'm not sure why you're attempting to minimize the actions of the state representatives of Mississippi.
