Cordell's prediction: Back-to-backs haven’t slowed Moritz Seider down, and that won’t change against the Wild.

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Moritz Seider has seen an uptick in his shot volume this season, pacing for the highest shot total since his rookie campaign back in 2021-22.

My Red Wings vs. Wild predictions see Seider delivering another productive shooting performance in a favorable matchup against Minnesota.

Let’s take a closer look at my NHL picks for Thursday, January 22.

Red Wings vs Wild prediction

Red Wings vs Wild best bet: Moritz Seider Over 1.5 shots (-150)

A lot of players see dips in production, shot-generation, and/or ice time in back-to-backs. Moritz Seider is a clear exception.

He has averaged 25 minutes per game in such situations — directly in line with his season average — while recording shots at an even higher rate than usual.

Seider has played in 10 back-to-backs this year. He recorded multiple shots in nine, averaging 2.4 on 6.0 attempts. Those are noticeably above his season averages of 2.2 shots and 4.8 attempts, which are solid to begin with.

Seider fared very similarly last year, averaging 6.3 attempts per game on zero rest compared to 4.5 overall.

This is certainly not a spot where we should expect Seider’s numbers to dip. The Minnesota Wild rank fourth in pace and 28th in shot suppression at 5-on-5 over the last 10 games.

They have also allowed the second-most shots to defensemen and fourth most from his primary shooting location at the right point.

This is a wheels-up spot for Seider across the board.

Red Wings vs Wild same-game parlay

Quinn Hughes is a Michigan boy, so games against his hometown team likely mean a little extra. He had four shots on seven attempts in his meeting with the Detroit Red Wings earlier this season.

Detroit has allowed the 8th most shots to blueliners over their last 10, so he should be able to put up similar numbers this time around.

Kirill Kaprizov is one of the league’s best scorers, and he does his best work in Minnesota. He has found the net in 48% of home games and 57% when working on a day of rest.

Drawing backup netminder Cam Talbot should further up his cause.
